First let me preface by saying I'd rather the Dolphins be 8-3 and at the top of the AFC. I'm worn out by average finishes and .500 records. That being said I believe the team is a few new players away from actually being relevant.

Offensively I'm pleased with how the OL has performed based on the troubles they've had to overcome this year. Samson Satele re-signing with Miami and starting at C from Day 1 is a huge surprise but he's fairly pretty well. Brandon Albert seems to have been everything he was advertised being up until his IR-stint. Juwan James, what can you say about him? He's done a pretty good job too at T. If the Dolphins can focus on G in the draft I think the OL can be a strength next year. After all they were 6th in rushing coming into the game yesterday.

As others have alluded to I'd like Miami to draft a big WR. A guy who is tall, strong, and can jump up and bring passes down. I like Hartline but if we'd be able to get this WR the team actually is starving for yet it's at the expense of Hartline being gone so be it. I can't rant enough over the job Jarvis Landry has done. With him, Wallace, and a new WR who's Anquan Boldin-esque I think the WR core would be awesome. Pair them with Rishard Matthews and a TE set of Clay and another draft pick TE who can stretch the field and the offense is set.

Defensively Miami needs to figure out their LB core. Ellerbe has been out all year and I don't even remember seeing Wheeler out there yesterday. Chris McCain, Jelani Jenkins, Jordan Tripp....you have some pieces there. Get the LB core figured out and draft a CB to pair with Grimes and I think the DL can be set too.

I'm almost always optimistic about the Miami Dolphins. You may not be able to tell that this year b/c their inability to be elite has finally worn on me. Coming into this season I lacked faith in them for the first time in my life. Even when they'd finish 7-9 every year I still thought they'd have the potential to win 10 games before the season began. I'm now on board the future Dolphins bandwagon again. I don't think they're far off. We've been saying that forever but I hope it finally comes to fruition in 2015.

That being said I'd still love to see them finish 10-6 and in the playoffs. Will it occur? We'll know in 5 weeks.

I agree with you on everything except if I had a choice, I would rather have the big consistent TE, the big receiver, it works better with the type of QB Ryan is becoming.

Ryan is spreading to everyone, and is moving the ball, but the two things that Miami at times will fail at is blocking (When playing an elite pass-rushing team), and in the redzone having a big target to be more consistent. While a big receiver could help in the redzone, a TE that can consistently get open is far more dangerous, and when you need him to block, it a much better plus to have.

At times this year Miami has looked like an elite team. The Dolphins are essentially two first downs (GB, Det) away from being 8-3. The team could have won yesterday in Denver against a Peyton Manning-led Broncos team. All six wins are by double-digits, three of the five losses were winnable games.

The problem right now is that Miami can't close games. To some extent, that's a sign of a young team. I think that also rests on the coaching staff as well. In the Green Bay loss, I felt the Dolphins should have trusted Ryan Tannehill to pass on a third and nine with the Packers two starting corners out. Tannehill is smart enough to know that if the play isn't there he can take a "safe" sack and run time off the clock. Just gives the team the option of trying to win the game instead of giving Aaron Rodgers one more chance.

But, to your point things are looking up. We've got our quarterback and it's been a long, long time since Miami could say that. I love Bill Lazor as the offensive coordinator. He is one of the best in the business, but it's also only a matter of time before he gets head coaching opportunities. There's a lot of young talent here.

I agree a big, physical receiver is needed on offense. I think the team also needs to find a quality corner with Brent Grimes and Courtney Finnegan both over 30. To your point, a guard and a linebacker is a need as well. Maybe the team can find a guard a little later in the draft.

My biggest question moving forward in Joe Philibin as head coach. Unfortunately, that's a tough area to have question marks. Philibin hasn't shown a killer instinct. Is he good enough to lead this team to the next level?

Going to see Tannehill to Landry for years. Enjoy it this is the Peyton and Harrison like combo

They have cleared the biggest obstacle to be successful. Now they need to strengthen the team around "Vanilla Thunder." It will be nice to enter an off season where we don't have to focus on the QB position. But that's not for 2 more months. Lots of football left.

Grimes and Wake are on the wrong side of 30, performance levels can drop off fast there. Would help so much if Jordan realized his potential.

True. CBs, guards, and a WR/TE big target are keys in the draft. LB too perhaps.

Miami is ridiculously loaded at DE, so even though when Wake leaves, it will hurt, it will not hurt as much as it normally does other teams. As far as corner, we really do need to hit on a few in the draft, this is getting dangerous on how light we are talent wise at that position.

I really think in time Taylor will eventually be a very good all-around corner (at worse #2 corner), but we need to find now another Corner to eventually grow as our other starter...Will Davis is way to inconsistent, and is horrible if he needs to tackle.
