Why I think Coyle should go

One of the reasons Coyle wasn't very good was when he blitzed, we barely got to the QB. He wasn't very good at either disguising the blitz or where it was coming from. It always seemed to get picked up easily. It was so damn frustrating to watch, giving up big play after big play. It seemed like he wasn't very creative like some of the better DC's. Thoughts?

Maybe the players aren't very good.

If you're blitzing and everyone gets picked up wouldn't that mean that the defenders are all in one-on-one matchups? Which tells me these guys aren't winning one-on-one matchups along the defensive line anywhere. We don't have good enough players.

Don't get me wrong...I don't like the bend but don't break philosophy that Coyle uses. I would prefer to attack like Seattle does but we don't have the players.

Players are bad and it took half of the season for the NFL to figure it out. Once offenses figured us out, the flood gates were open and we couldn't stop it. I'll put a majority of the blame on the players, but Coyle hasn't done a good job either and he is usually too late with his game plan corrections. I think we should explore a new DC, but chances are we will not get one being that they might only have 1 year on the job. The only change would be to promote from within. I doubt anyone from the outside would take a job with only a 1 year guarantee.

Points allowed:

2012 - 317
2013 - 335
2014 - 336 (through 15 games)

Granted these numbers aren't bad but the team is regressing on defense and not getting better. Coyle should be fired as a result of the defense getting worse since he took over. A sensible head coach would see these numbers and make a change. Let's hope that Philbin learned from last year and sees the improvement Lazor was able to make on offense and bring in someone better on defense as well....

Outside of our LBs, these same players have played at a higher level before. Coyle is the biggest problem. Our defensive scheme is vanilla and relys on pure talent to win matchups. We don't have the pure talent to do that. Coyle has managed to make our Dline look horrible. Move on.

His game plan vs Denver was so extremely pathetic, he basically gave Manning exactly what he wanted. Not to mention this defense has gone downward each of the past 3 seasons. In the last quarter of the season, this defense has completely fallen apart. I know the injuries have taken a toll, but the poor game planning and softness on D, playing yards off the ball, etc.. outweighs the injuries as far as I am concerned. Zone and or prevent should be outlawed.

Because if Ross didn't force him last year we would still have Sherman as our OC.
And how do you know that??? Please, you sound like an idiot like the other poster. Just because Philbin doesn't have an iron jaw and a sourpuss face like Parcells or Bellichik doesn't mean he can't be calculated himself and be direct. Stop posting non-factual innuendos, unless you can prove to us you are a fly on the Dolphin Headquarters wall, because you, me and everyone else on this forum is totally clueless as to how the Sherman firing went down.

No...but he slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

oh man that got me good

coyle can stay or go not in love with him, but don't think he's done an awful job. However, he has certainly let his defense regress towards the end of the year whether it be through scheme or personnel.

I do agree with the sentiment that Phiblin would rather keep him than fire him for personal reasons.

Nobody knows for sure what exactly happened but it was widely reported that Joe did not want to fire Sherman.
