Joe Philbin was 10 years old in 1972.
When you are that age, the sports heroes of that time are LEGENDARY, and no one ever could POSSIBLY be as great as the champions you watch at that time in your life.
There are no greater names in all of football HISTORY, I am sure, in his mind, than Don Shula and Bob Griese and Larry Csonka and Nick Buoniconti and Paul Warfield and Dick Anderson....
As of tonight, he holds DON SHULA'S job. He will sit in his office. That has to be like a dream to him.

I would have hired him just for THAT reason.
He KNOWS what the Miami Dolphins are, and have been... and can be. This is not just "another NFL head coaching job" to him. mccoy and bowles and some of the others may have vague childhood memories of Dan Marino... but that's not the same.
He helped bring the Green Bay Packers back. He can do this. We got the right guy.
