Why Im So Optimistic About the Offense

We should get improved play from our guards which is great for a running back like Achane. Once Achane gets past the line, anything can happen. But our O-Line was so bad last year I lost count of how many times I saw our RB's bounce off of them and fall down before the line of scrimmage.

Olive Garden gives our running game a dimension it hasn't had in years and desperately needed. 4th and short should no longer be a guaranteed turnover on downs. Hopefully McD is realizing that there is a lot more to a successful NFL Offense than just players who can run really fast.

Out of both Washingtons and the UDFA WR's we signed, hopefully at least one can step up and be a true playmaker in the league. Malik Washington did show signs of potential.

I would project Dline as a strength this year. Secondary is unknown, but they can sign a couple of vets and we[ll be okay if our line and edges perform as forecasted…
I think Gilmore and Justin Simmons are still available.

To be honest, part of me wants to see the young players get a chance and grow with the defense. That probably could mean fewer wins, but not sure this is a playoff team anyway.

It could be of Tua stays healthy, but feels like a transition year.

IMO, its all about the Oline and I dont feel like we did enough. We drafted 1, JUST 1, lineman. Then we brought in another off an injury. I just dont think thats enough. I would have expected a couple lineman in the draft and more free agents for depth. Grier said he was going to focus on the OL this off-season. I dont see it.

If all starting 5 stay healthy and Tua plays every game, I think the offense can get back on its horse and be a top 10. BUT, a healthy Tua and Ajax have not been the norm.

I was disappointed we didn’t treat the Oline like the dline in this draft. I would’ve like to have seen a couple of more pickups at backup center, and developmental OTackle, or another guard depending on the value. I’m optimistic Paul should at least be okay based on what we saw last year, but if he or AJ get injured, we are well and truly screwed. Daniel’s health and return from injury will have a big say as to how this unit turns out. Ideally, Grier would realize this and sign one more Free agent such as Will Hernandez, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. I do expect them to sign two cornerbacks though.
To that point, there were still some offensive linemen available when Miami traded down to get a 3rd next year. Maybe those secondary picks will turn out, though.

Hopefully Miami can fare better on the injury front too.

Olive Garden also has great bread sticks! Don't you love auto correct? 😆

I know you meant Ollie Gordon and I agree with you.

There were so many times last year where Miami running backs had to break two tackles just to get back to the line of scrimmage.

Those 7-yard backwards tosses and long developing running plays have to be nixed too. Defenses are too fast and those plays aren't working.

That's no auto correct. He will always be Olive Garden to me.

I wouldn't project it as a strength, I'd agree it was preliminary, adequately addressed by the team.
I have a similar sentiment with the offensive line.
Similar to 2023, if the line can be respectable the offense should be fine though.

While the defense is clearly going through a youth movement, this could be the best offensive talent McDaniel has had since taking over Miami.

Specifically, here's why I'm optimistic.

Potential in Short Yardage
Last year, the Dolphins were 11-20 on 3rd and one and 0-3 on 4th and one. No surprise, that was last in the NFL. How many promising drives ended because Miami couldn't pick up a measley yard? It was the Achilles heel of this team and maybe the biggest reason the Dolphins missed the playoffs. Along with Tua missing six games.

The free agent acquisition of Daniels, and drafting Savaiinaea dramatically improves the guards. Gordon is exactly the type of running back Grier needed to add, as he can win the stalemates and get a yard or two on his own. Brown and Conyers at tight end should upgrade the blocking of that unit. The Sporting News calls Conyers Miami's top UDFA signing.

Depth and 50/50 Winners at WR
Westbrook-Ikine, and potentially UDFA Armstrong add size to the wide receiver room. Ikine had eight touchdowns last year, more than Hill and Waddle combined. A sneaky good FA add by Grier. Add in Washington, who played well as a rookie and there's good depth. Don't forget Hill played with the wrist injury, and he could bounce back big. But Grier is smartly preparing for life after Hill.

Agree, but you left out the BIG potential negative - OC. If he can exorcise his demons, '25 should be fun

I think j-off-her-doll was right about Conyers. His highlight tape looks promising, and most definitely like a draftable player.
oh I love that we got him. Just hope he gets a real chance to make the team. At this point I have him above Julian Hill already

I think the main problem are the number of 'ifs' involved.

The Dolphins can have a very potent offense... but every position group has a caveat attached to it.

If Tua stays healthy
If Tyreek keeps his head on straight
If Tyreek and Waddle stop getting dinged up
We all know the offensive line has its share of ifs - New left tackle, a guard with one healthy achilles, another tackle who has his share of health issues.
If McD stops getting too cute with the play calls
If the new players can learn the many pre-snap alignments and motions

There are just so many moving parts. When it works, it works well. Just too many ifs for me to have high hopes. The season is long and grueling and weaknesses tend to get sniffed out.

IF Tua stays healthy the offense should be fine
The question marks are going to be on defense this year, specifically interior D-line, LBs, and DBs
I'm thinking the Dline will be fine. Do have questions about the DBs.

Pass rush is critical. Are Chubb and Phillips the same as pre injuries?

I liked Hill as a rookie, but he clearly regressed. Competition is definitely needed at the tight end position.
