We finally have a good offensive line with two bookend tackles and we want to just let one of them walk?
That would create yet another huge hole on an offense with too many needs as it is. We need two wide receivers, a right guard, and we can't afford to lose our pro bowl caliber right tackle.
With all of the positions that need to be addressed with youth and talent in the off season, I don't want to add right tackle to the laundry list.

im with you but maybe he wants top level LT money. I see no reason that Bell, Crowder and Carey should not be resigned this offseason.

As far as I'm concerned, Crowder can go. We should prioritize with Carey and Bell.

I can't see Carey demanding a big LT contract because he did not play overly well at that position and I doubt very much that anyone would give him that kind of a deal.

Just mere speculation from finheaven as always. I mean who isn't going to look for top pay? Do we have anyone else to replace him with? These are things that people have to think about.

well too many of this board want us to dump Crowder when none of the other three linebackers will probably be here more than one more year. I would definately pay crowder over akinole or Roth and Porter damn sure is not going to pick up the slack on the run.

Crowder is basically the only long term linebacker we have and is only 25 but yea lets keep other teams scraps over him because we are not going to be able to draft Maluaga to replace him and an upgrade will not come cheap.

If Carey would stop being a lazy turd and report to camp in shape with his weight down and stamina up then by all means ...re-sign him. Otherwise NO

man to b honest carey is not dat good... i would much rather go a diff direction ...

I personally would prefer him at guard. i think he can be a pro bowl guard.
Imagine if we had passed on a LT like many said we should because they though Carey would be a top LT.

We tried Carey at guard at one point in his career and he was not that good there either. He is simply too fat and out of shape every season and will be a career long underachiever unless he dedicates himself to losing a lot of weight

Carey played exceptionally well this year, and when you have an opportunity to have bookend tackles for many years you don't pass it up.
Crowder is good, and while we don't have anyone ON ROSTER to replace him with, he is very replaceable. We have a lot more needs on defense than people think, particularly in the front 7. Much of our problems in the pass D came from a lack of a consistent pass rush this year. Sure, Porter had a big year with the sacks, but he rarely got CONSISTENT PRESSURE and no one else on this D can rush the passer to save their life.
That is exactly why I'm saying we need to re-sign Carey. We can't afford to have any more needs, we have too many to address in the off season as is.

i think he is a solid player just not top notch at tackle. As for guard we really did not play him there very much. He played there more in college. He was never a LT though as far as ability.

the story about Columbo indicates that Carey is not the Tuna's cup o tea

but now that Columbo is off the market, Carey will get an offer from us and be given the chance to beat it in the market

look for us to draft a pancaker if Carey goes

I don't have a problem with keeping him. My issues is the ammount of overpayment we are going to have to do to keep him. Servicable ORTs aren't THAT hard to find. If he wants middle 1/3 to maybe top 1/4 level salary? Keep him. If he's going to start with the chest pumping and demanding top 5 ORT money? Nah. Take a hike. I feel much the same way about Crowder, though, I admit I think it's more important to keep Crowder than Carey now.

I don't see him as a guard even though he has played guard for UM before. He has also played Left Tackle for us and has shown that he is multi-dimensional.

The question is if he wants to play guard but you already know he is not going to. The team that does sign him will get a heck of a tackle but not a premiere one.

I agree with that Gooner. I say that we pay him at least 6-10 top level tackle money. He enjoys Miami and I don't think he will go any higher than that. The real question is if our front office wants him back. If that is the case then we won't know until Feb-march.
