For those of you who insist that they dont want to trade for, or sign another FA QB, why is this the case?

I keep seeing we dont want anyones backup..and that includes players like Rivers and Volek, Garrard. We dont want Josh McCown either.

So, what happens in the case that we draft a guy like Jay Cutler, and he doesnt work out?

Some of these guys have played in the NFL and have proved succesful. I dont think we need to have a guy like Peyton, or Brady to win a Super Bowl. We need a player of the same talent level as say a Matt Hasselback..who backud up Brett Favre. He is playing at a pro bowl level now.

It would make sense for Saban to bring in as many types of QB available. Maybe draft one and sign a FA QB. If Schaub can be had for a #2..it should be investigated..as his talent level could definatley be higher than Brody Croyle who would be the sort of QB we would find at #2.

Cutler most likely will go in the top ten. Are you prepared to give up this years first and next years first to move up and take him? It will cost at least that to trade up into the top ten.

So..if and when we dont get Cutler...what is your solution. Please elaborate with some solid arguments....not just....Player X sucks.....(I know at least one of you will actually post just that...Player X sucks...just because I said not to...:) )

Tom "freakin" Brady was a backup to Bledsoe... And he was even taken in the 6th rd as we already know.

and to that all i gotta say is damn you jets for knocking out bledsoe that time.

I'd like to get Patrick Ramsey.
I think we will get Cutler, Croyle or Whitehurst in the draft and we will also get someone like a McCown or Ramsey for competition.

Mueller will make it a QB camp this offseason and we will find someone that can run the offense proficiently IMO in the next 2 offseasons if not this offseason.

Lets hope so.

I would not be too upset with this scenario:
FA: Sign Josh McCown, and a good RG.
Draft: 1st rd: Best available player (Huff, Greenway, etc.)
2nd rd: best remaining LT (There are a lot of good T prospects in this draft, one should be available here)
3rd rd: Whitehurst

Remember Mularsky likes mobile Qb's. McCown, and Whitehurst are.

the problem that i see with picking up someone else's backup is that there has to be reason that they were the backup. in hasselbeck's case, he was backing up favre - ok, that seems a very reasonable explanation as to why he wasn't starting. so seattle trades for him, because holmgren knows him, and has installed an offensive system similar to green bay's so he knows that hasselbeck has a great chance to succeed. i don't see a similar situation around the league. mccown and ramsey were beaten out by and held off by kurt warner and mark brunell - hardly brett favre. they had chances to start but for one reason or another, it didn't work out. so what reason do we have to believe that they'll work out here?

what are u guys smoking???? sign josh mccown? david gerrard? these guys are backups at best, just like all the qbs miami is bringing in. fiedler, aj feely, frerrote. we need a tier 1 QB not other teams backups....

Ramsey is NOT the answer for the fins QB problems, Spurrier ruined him years ago...

how you (and most people here) speak of drafting QBs, you'd swear that QB was the only position that ever busted.
