Haven't we already established how overrated 40 times are? Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Jerry Rice had a very spectacular 40 time. He turned out OK.

The only way a 40 yard dash is relevant is if it is run with FULL pads on. And carrying a football. :rimshot:

True, but Jerry Rice was a very spectacular wide receiver. All things equal, if you had 2 very similar wide outs and the only thing separating them was their speed, you become very enamored with the 40 yd dash time.

a fast guy who can't defeat jams at the LOS is useless

I watched the Patrick Turner highlight video and he is no plodder

15 YPC and 10 TDs is pretty good for a sloth

Heyward-Bey - 15 YPC

Crabtree - 12 YPC

Maclin - 12 YPC

Turner averaged 15 YPC in a pro-style offense, I like that

People don't get the concept of "workout warriors" and "game speed". They get all excited over these scrubs who run a 4.2, or can do like 30 bench presses at the combine but really all of that means very little when it comes to the actual games.

good point ^^

so what if hes SLOWER than other receivers. He still got enough speed to be a good receiver. He dont need to be the fastest guy in the league if he runs good routes and catches everything thrown his way. Alot of people are obsessed with speed like thats the only thing that makes you a good receiver.

Yes, but Jerry Rice wasn't a spectacular WR at the combine. Which is exactly my point. Take this example. Darrius Heyward-Bey ran a BLAZING 40, but his career stats scream out ordinary WR. Too much stock is put on how fast a dude can run in his undies.

:chuckle: No question, look no further than #19 on our roster.

Ginn was a game breaker in college. I don't consider him a guy who just padded his resume by having a terrific combine. You can clearly see Ted Ginn's effectiveness on Sunday's as he's returned several kicks and caught many nice passes. I just don't think he's consistent enough to be a number one.

I think of Matt Jones and Vernon Davis. big, fast, invisible

at the '08 combine the sprinter Michael Johnson was coaching guys. its rediculous

for WR's they should have a cone and a blocking pad at the start of the dash along with a standing start

Ted Ginn had a lisfranic however you spell it foot sprain and didn't do anything at the combine as far as I know.

Thats right, i forgot about that. But i'm sure he had some kind of private workouts, which i don't think elevated his draft stock to such a degree.

i agree the 40 time means nothing to me football speed is diffrent then the 40 time
