Just wanted to be objective about the work of a GM and the success of a team. right before the start of the season most Miami fans were begging for Ross to extend Irelands contract for the great job he did on free agents, salary cap and his aggressive approach in the draft. now with the team at 4-5 and in the verge of loosing the playoffs with very questionable things surrounding our team everything is reversed and people want Irelands head. But let me point out some things to revaluate our view about our GM . Jeff Ireland is the least responsible for the Martin/Incognito show, A GM is working at his office with other matters and not in the locker room nor in the training field to get to know if there is a character matter with a player, that responsibility is all on the coaches. second, the very questionable offensive play calls that have cost Miami more than once are Sherman and Philbins responsibility not Irelands, Ireland didn't call for that " five step drop" with Mario Williams salivating 1-1 on Clabo with the game already in the pocket, not to mention all the major flaws and NFL conspiracy with the officials with terrible calls against us VS NE and Baltimore. Ireland brought some proven veterans like Wallace, Grimes, Gibson, Keller, and Ellerbe . he did a fine job with our cap numbers and drafted reaching for a player most people were excited about on Dion Jordan. the scheme, development of players, game planning, play calling and player matters are all on the coaches. and by the way Philbin was hired by Ross not Ireland and Philbin brought Sherman here. so lets look at our 4-5 record with the perspective of who is to blame and who is not.

Because he is the one who hired the coaches and drafted or signed the players

Punctuation and capital letters are your friends.

Missed on all but one of his 2nd and 3rd round picks during his career

The team is less talented then last season....

Moved up in the draft to grab a 3-4 OLB for a 4-3 team

Failed to address the offensive line

Bad trades (Brandon Marshall for 2 3rds....really?)

Mike Wallace and Philip Wheeler

the team is less talented than last year? really? Wallace was a bad signing? or the scheme and play calling is bad.

He didn't hire the coaches. Ireland wanted McCoy and Ross wanted philbin. Philbin assembled his coaching staff. he signed great players grimes, keller, Wallace, Gibson are great players .

I disagree this team is less talented. It isn't Ireland's fault that Keller and Gibson are out for the year. Had those two been playing all year I think the offense is better.

And I can go on forever with all the garbage he drafted or signed or all the talent he has passed up over the years, but when he comes down to it when you are the General Manager you are in charge of everything under you. If you continue to not show improvement you should be removed from your position. This team is not noticeably better than any of the years past under Ireland we may be stronger in some places but we still have the same glaring holes we've had the entire time he's been here.

It's Philbin's fault Legadu Naanae (sp?) was a starter at last year's beginning?

Tiger, Ireland didn't hire Philbin nor Sherman , and no question he signed great players in the offseason . would you explain your thumb down please? I´m curious to know

Because I disagree with everything you said.

Sure the o line has been bad, but Long wanted to sign elsewhere given the same amount of money, nobody thought Clabo was going to underperform, the martin/ incognito thing is all on the coaches. having said that he didn't hire the coaches and also he brought the best players in the FA sure he did miss some great ones in past drafts but he also found Bess and Wake , and drafted Tannehill, Pouncey, Hartline, Matthews, jones, Odrick

I've said this a few times now:

I think its pretty clear that somebody in the organization was unhappy with the status of our o-line. . We signed Lance Louis. We tried to resign Long. We drafted a guard pretty high. We tried to trade for a tackle. We signed Clabo. We signed another guard. And finally we did trade for a left tackle. I think based on all of this you can reasonably assume that Philbin asked for competent replacement options at every position on the line except center and, once again, Ireland failed miserably to deliver on that request.

Ireland definitely deserves at least some of the blame, if not all of it.

Outside of the WR's where are they better? RB? OL? LB?

How did he bring the best players from free agency/
He decided to replace a strength at linebackers to save some dollars when we had plenty of cap space. Got cheap not signig bUSH.
bIG DEAL he overpaid Mike Wallace any gm could have done that
