The Fins never drafted a QB when Marino was nearing the end of his career (around the 98-99 seasons) Why is that, did'nt these guys realize that Marino wasnt gonna last forever?

Because the Dolphins brought in future stars like Craig Erickson, Jay Fiedler, and Damon Huard. Why draft a qb with a high draft pick, when you can bring in talent like that?

Errors In Management

This was evident from the middle of Marino's career all the way through the 2005 draft.

For so many "football smart " people to avoid drafting a QB several times in the the top say 4 rounds is simply ludicrous.

It has greatly impacted why this team has not made the playoffs for what will be 4 seasons.

Shula , Johnson , Wanny and yes even Saban all have to take some blame. Of course Saban gets some leniancy here , but that ends if no QB is taken this year.

However , Randy Mueller has shown and has publicly stated , that he believes in taking a QB every year . He has shown the merits and validity of this .

As we painfully have seen , teams in dire need of a QB tend to overpay for backups with "some" potential.

KB pointed out in an earlier thread the length of time that Miami has gone without using a fairly high pick on a QB. Poor drafting overall , and in general has been the MAIN reason this team is where it is right now.

We have a serious lack of above average talent . Few elite level , difference makers , and clutch players. QB just is the most under the spotlight position.

Saying that , I truly believe in this new regime. Saban with Mueller are the best leadership tandem we have maybe ever had.... I know that is almost blasphemy , Shula , 17 and 0 etc. That was a different time though ....

It will take time , maybe not next year , but definitely on the horizon .

I don't "want" us to lose or struggle , however camaflouging the fraility of this team would not be good.... be realistic as fans , cheer of course , hope of course ...but like the new regime.... be paramountly realistic and let the needed steps take place to be that consistent elite team once again. You can't rush this...and struggles are to expected.... this will be a HUGE HUGE offseason , relatively full draft card for once , serious cap room and LEADERSHIP............

NO MORE BANDAIDS ..... take the pain for the long term .....like in so so many venues in life , short term pain for long term gain... it really is not that complicated .... just to have the strength to endure the rough times... we have that strength now , so don't at all rant on this regime...they are the BEST thing that has haapened in YEARS to Miami .

we thought we had the next great thing in damon huard becuase he was learning under marino, yeah they were wrong.......

I, for one was hopping mad when we passed on Brees. But thank heavens we got Jamar!

BEST post I've read all season my friend! This "brings it home" if you will in terms of the BIG PICTURE.

The "fire this guy and bench that guy" camp should realize that any changes done THIS season will be superfluous and MAY or may NOT result in more W's. The issue here is not wins at this time (of course they’d be great!) but general progression of the team as the year rolls on. This last game illustrated one thing we've collectively had our head in the sand about... We are clearly a "HAVE NOT" in every sense of the words now, this much is CRYSTAL clear. The damage that Jimmy's final pi$$ poor drafts along with Dave "Angel of Death" Wannphuck and his court jester of a sidekick have D E S T R O Y E D this organization from the top down!!

People, we are not only IN a rebuilding mode here but one that is not limited to talent acquisition alone. We must recognize that Nick’s changing the Miami Dolphins from an organizational & philosophical perspective as well. I don’t need to tell you guys that this WILL TAKE TIME and perseverance to achieve.

Nick/Mueller WILL be successful here in due time as long as we find A) legitimate starting QB and B) we draft intelligently; assuming no career ending injuries/deaths to key acquisitions of course. Clearly, if nothing out of the ordinary goes wrong, I have every faith that we'll be back in contention in 2 years with serious SB aspirations in 3 – 4 years. Fans need to stop with the "sky is falling" threads and realize that it was ALREADY FALLEN!!!

Step back, take that deep breath, and enjoy the JOURNEY guys.

We'll be aight.

:)
