Is anyone else a little surprised by all this?? Yes, the kid has pretty much failed in Detroit, but even Jeff Garcia has landed on a team where he can compete for the starting job. Sooo . . .

Don't get me wrong, I'm enthused were getting a QB for our backup role that was a starter for the past few years, but it's odd how enthusiastic Harrington seems to be in landing a backup job.

Is it truly just the coaching staff?? Or do you think Harrington sees a sliver of opportunity here??

The last thing we need is him performing on an A-level for the first few games of the season if Daunte does not recover in time. There's nothing like a QB controversey to stutter progress. (EDIT: Actually that would be great, but you know what I mean.)

What has made Harrington so enthusiastic about Miami??

i think joey knows that miami gives him the best chance to make him a better qb and get his career back on track so that once his contract is over he can become a possible starter else where...he can also be taught by one of the best qbs in the leage daunte which will help his game and he will be coached under nick saban and mike mularkey...its a good opportunity for him and im sure location helps who wouldnt want to live in miami....hopefully he will also have a shot to win a sb ring as a back up too

yo, maybe the kid is just a slacker. (mcfly?)

seriously, maybe he doesnt want heavy expectations anymore... really dont know bro...but am certainly glad to welcome him aboard.

cause culp may not be ready till november and the phins are building a team that in a year or 2 could be SB bound?

Joey feels that he will start all of preseason and the first few games of the regular season if Daunte is not 100% and that gives him the best chance of showing that he deserves a big contract elsewhere next year.

Heck, this offensive scheme actually made Gus look good. Next year you can expect much of the same if you believe Saban. If things play out the way Harrington expects, he can shine for at least a few games this year.

Ummmm, I don't think so. That attitude will get you to retirement in post-haste if you play any position in the NFL. That is especially true if you are a QB.

Here's why.

1. When he gets here he gets to play. None of us know when Daunte will recover from a very serious knee situation - hopefully sooner then later but the problem with predictions is that they involve the future. Possession is 9/10ths of the law so when he comes here he possesses a starting position. In this he can showcase his talents on a good team and possible line his pockets for years to come.

2. He's got a good or great supporting cast around him. Great coaching. Good or great running game. Good or great receivers including our tight end situation.

3. He know that Daunte - even if he comes back in late November - is pushing an envelope in terms of healing. So in that sense anything can happen and he could end up being Earl Morrall.

4. The guy believes in himself and thinks if he gets here he can play better, maybe considerably better than Gus did last year. So say he goes 4 and 0 or even 6-2 and Daunte steps in from there - Daunte better get going real fast.

5. On any other team he is fighting for his life in terms of playing time this year and with weaker supporting casts that might leave him to be a wandering second stringer like Gus. He sees his chance and I agree fully!

Actually, it would be GREAT for us if Joey comes in and lights it up if Daunte isn't ready to go at the beginning of the year.

It creates long-term value and gives us trade bait. Daunte is our QB. Make no bones about it. But there's ALWAYS a team that needs a QB. What if Joey comes to Miami, turns his career around, plays very well and we can get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him???

slow down there partner

yo, the slacker comment was a joke kid... ease up abit...

the next sentence started with the words " seriously..." follow by my for real ron jaworski-like insight...

peace

He thinks Miami has the pieces in place around him that would give him the greatest chance of success, plus he'll be in a situation where all the pressure to be "the man" is on Daunte instead of him.

Agree with the last few posts...its a win/win for Joey and Miami.....come on down!!!!!

isn't it obvious? Three reasons; hot weather, hot food, and hot women. All things Detriot, or any other NFL team lacks. ;)

there is hot food and weather here in Arizona. some hot women, but probably nowhere near as many as Miami.

Makin 7 figures or high 6 living on South Beach and being a backup quarterback doesn't sound too bad to me. I'd certainly do it.

Have you ever been to Detroit? It's no Miami.
