Why is Murtha still on the team?

Hey! Tony Sparano is an offensive line GENIUS!! You cannot question any of the moves he has made because he knows more about the offensive line than you do. This guy could take five 150 lbs. red haired, Republican virgins and turn them into the 1987 Giants OL.

Murtha is still on the team because the waterboy pulled a hammy and he is subbing for him until he gets back , then it's adios Murtha...say hello to Pat McQuistan and don't let the door hit ya on the *** on the way out.

Am I missing something.. I know Murtha was terrible last year but word out of camp and even in the preseason game against John Abraham, Murtha has been playing surprisingly well. Move him to RT and use Colombo for depth

Exactly, did anyone hear Abraham's name in the game the other night....the answer would be Nope...Murtha mauled him a lot in the first 3 series..

Murtha is pancaking people throughout training camp. He's a third year player who's had the light come on. You people pick a name, do a brief look into their history, and, if they've had a few bad games, declare "he sucks" without doing any real analysis. Then the haters come out and parrot, "Yeah, that's right. He sucks." Mindless products of public education.

That is giving far too much credit to some.

It's more like,

What's that guys name? He sucks. Did I see the game? No, but he still sucks. What do you mean he wasn't playing in that game? He still sucked. If he plays on the Miami Dolphins and his name isn't Matty Ice Ryan he sucks. He went to the Pro Bowl, he sucks. He just scored a touchdown, he kinda sucks, he dropped a ball, now he sucks again.

He actually got better towards the end of last season . . . specifically against the Lions, we were so effective with Murtha being a big reason for our success up front (along with Incognito at Center) . . . Murtha got hurt, we move Incogs back to LG, Berger at C and I believe McQuistian at RT . . . and low and behold (we suck again). His play being terrible has been very much "overblown" . . . similar to the talk of Benny Sapp being "terrible". Are they the best in the league, hell no, but you aren't going to have the best in the league at every position. The fact that Murtha is improving is a GREAT THING, because this regime hasn't had the best track record of improving any linemen for a decent period of time.

I'll take Murtha at RT right now over Colombo . . . assuming Jake is healthy, if not, we are going to need him at LT.

If Murtha ends up playing LT for us we better sign three more qb's asap

Guy is garbage. And WTF is that tattoo he has? Murtha was awful last season when he got PT when Long went down and he was awful tonight.

The fins have spent 3 first round draft picks on 3 OL men and Long seems to be the only one to have panned out. Jerry... playing deep into the 3rd qtr, Pouncey, hardly got reps.

I guess since your'e to lazy to find out why his on this team, ill just do it for you.

Since 6'7 315 lb OT don't just fall out the sky, you have to find the decent one with potential, so you can groom him. I.E technique, fundamentals, weight room, diet. Which is exactly what we did when we picked him off the Detroit Lions PS in 2009. Since that time he has fine tuned his game
to the point where he can be Jake Long's back up. Now, without that proactive approach, we would be completely screw right now since Jake long is injured.

Murtha stood out at the Combine. He led the offensive linemen in the 40-yard dash (4.89 seconds), the 20-yard shuttle (4.34) and three-cone drill (7.06). He ranked second in the vertical jump (35 inches) and tied for second in the broad jump (9-feet-2). But he was less impressive in college. He is tall and lanky, and he hasn't displayed strength and power. He also has struggled to stay healthy.

So the upside is there, seems to me he just needed to get stronger, add strength and find a way to stay healthy. He just needs time just like any other young player to develop. So hopefully your question was answered. And he started 4 games last year, and yielded only 1 Sack and 1 penalty. So, for a guy getting his first extended playing time, you call that awful, I don't what hell you're thinking about. For once, I just wish people would really think before they post. If you follow this team as closely as you should, I think it's obvious why he is on this team.

I'm guessing if a guy is not a first round draft pick he automatically just suck. And if he was so bad, I'm pretty sure the beat writers would be all over him. All I've heard during training camp is how he handles JT with no problem. I'm talking about the future Hall of fame JT.

Some players just attract criticism (eg #7). In this case unfairly. Murtha is a big guy who has struggled but I'm delighted to hear that he's making good progress. O line players generally take some time to hit their straps. He represents low cost depth.

Well if Colombo is at LT, we may as well turn Daniel Thomas back into a quarterback.

columbo is worse than Murtha right now. at least Murtha is improving and may be able to play decent RT in future. Neither of these guys should be a starter for any team that wants to win.

3 pages and 2 stars strong.

I don't know how many of you actually rewatch and break down film.. that's just insane for a fan. I know people here claim to do that, but, damn really?.

Maybe he will end up being good for the dolphins sake. It seems that whenever a starting OL goes down, the whole line is shuffled and it only gets worse. I think it was the game against the browns last year Murtha just got absolutely destroyed. I think he had 3 penalties on FGA against the pats on MNF too.. FGS! Granted, EVERYTHING went wrong in that game.

Hoping for the best, bracing for the worst.

Murtha bump
