Why is no one talking about AJ EDDS?

Wow, Burnett a beast?!?

I thought he was awful, out of position or getting blocked on run plays and lost in coverage.

Both Dansby and Burnett were not filling the correct lanes. The defense did not play disciplined. I expect Nolan will get them up to speed.

I like the Burnett signing based on potential and last season but akll this beast talk is quite premature, he has had one really good season in his entire career. Was dissapointing in Dallas and tunred it around in san Diego but the one red flag to me is San diego chose to sign takeo spikes over signing Burnett then made burnett a lower priority to sign

I thought Edds had an outstanding game. Always was around the ball, and can tackle. Doubt he starts over Burnett but I gotta admit i love the depth!

Actually, he was the only linebacker consistently filling the correct hole. He did have one arm tackle where he missed an opportunity for a tackle for a loss. I agree that he had a very good game. It is encouraging, but he is a backup and specialist.

I think SD new that another team like our fins would pony up more money to get the guy, then to try an ouybid someone else.

Edds did have a good game, but Burnett is in no danger of losing his job. Absolutely no chance that happens.

Edds will play this year, on 3rd downs and in passing situations. He will have a role in this defense, but he is not a starter, yet. With the addition of Mitchell, the Dolphins have a pretty good set of inside linebackers.

Harrison was disappointing until he wasn't and Pace in AZ was lacklustre until his contract year. These career awakenings don't often occur, but when they do, the effects most often are not limited to a 1 season anomaly. Will Burnett again be the beast he was last season? Hard to say yes but considering who he's now lining up with, just as difficult to negate

No hon Edds starting at least this year he was brought in to cover in passing downs and as this is his rookie year so to speak that is how he will be used. Good game though.

Edda showed well. He appears to be a good draft pick despite the year of rust.

Physically:
He displayed the fast vertical speed that his 40 time suggested, and it was great to see that translate into playing speed. His first step isn't really explosive, but it isn't bad either, but it's his top gear that is most impressive. Laterally he is quicker than average but not exceptional. Size-wise he fits the mold Ireland wants, but Edds biggest problem is that he needs more functional strength. Fortunately, strength can be improved. He gets moved at the point of attack and had a couple of arm tackles that were run through. All in all, an exciting physical package.

Instincts:
He already posseses good instincts and fast mental reaction. He was a bit inconsistent, but that's common for young players. He reads the play, anticipates how it unfolds, and gets where he needs to be very well. I was surprised how well he read the game at ILB. His strength was supposed to be covering TE's and he did not disappoint. I think he is by far our best coverage LB in a long time. The thing that impressed me mostthough, was they way he married his reading and speed to become a very rangy LB and always stay in the play. If he builds on that he can become an impact starter down the road once he builds his functional strength.

All in all he has a lot of potential. I don't know if calling him a starter/backup really has much value, because he is definitely a situational cover LB right now. He showed the read and range to become a good LB, but his strength progression will determine how quickly he forces his way not the base package. For now he isn't strong enough to claim a spot in the base package. But he is always around the ball, so if he starts forcing turnovers he will demand more snaps ... and IMHO he has the ability.
Crowder never made impactful plays and always relied on superior athletic ability to bail out his slow read and respond skills. Edds isn't Zach Thomas, but he is a lot quicker to diagnose plays than Crowder ever was ... which is encouraging.

I thought he looked very good out there. Appeared to read plays well.

I expect to see him come in on 3rd downs. He showed his good cover skills in this game.

I'll agree with this. I was not impressed at all with Burnett. He showed nothing in this game. I hope it was just "first preaseason game with a new team" jitters...

i was hoping for a chad greenway...he's anything but...hoping the leg is why he looks like an average athlete and lacks burst and that he just needs time
