I feel that this coaching regime and the ones of the recent past have made no effort to sign a veteran free agent for the offensive line. They made Joey Porter at outside linebacker a priority aquisition but failed to address the offensive line and the need for a veteran presence. I know that Hudson Houck is one of the better line caoches in the league but I think it would be a mistake not to bring someone in. We've got a quaterback coming off a serious concussion and a rookie behind him to be groomed. We don't need what happened in Houston with David Carr to happen here in MIami. This is my first post and i'm a rookie here but i would to hear your feedback on this.

Well, this has certainly been debated and I think O line remains our biggest question mark. I wasn't a huge of any of the free agent lineman this year. Most were guards and they got ridiculous deals given their talent level. That being said, I certainly don't think paying Joey P $20 million was a wise allocation of funds. Unfortunately there isn't much out on the market right now. Kendall is probably the most likely.

But who knows. By the end of last year, the line was doing fairly well. Our biggest hole was definitely going to be left tackle. Now, with all of the reshuffling we're looking at a new player at every single position on the o line. Satele could be an upgrade at center. Rex could do better at guard. I really hope Carey can step it up and play LT. He really came on last season at RT and I would hate to see him struggle in his new spot when he was so solid on the other side. It's certainly going to be interesting.

The free agent market has really gotten inflated in recent times with guards signing huge deals, I think they feel there is a better way to build a line.

Although, I could see Kendall coming.

Well, I think we have two weaknesses on the line this year. Different weaknesses than last year. Specifically at the Guard postion (the one that Rex isn't playing) and a question mark at Right tackle where LJ Shelton is going to start this year.

With regards to the guard position, Drew Mormino is going to compete with Chris Lewinski at that position and I think that's probably not going to be too bad, whoever wins that battle. It's also a possibility that we might make a late summer pickup such as Pete Kendall which would be ideal for the Guard position. LJ Shelton has been historically inconsistent at the Right Tackle position, and this is the position that I am most concerned about. Shelton has proven he's a good guard, but he hasn't neccessarily proven he can play well consistently at either tackle position. He's got alot of experience, and hopefully, coach Houck can coach him up so he can be better this year, but the Right tackle position may be the biggest weakness on our team this year.

In general, I've been pretty pleased with our offseason this year, but I must admit, I do wish we would've brought in a better tackle prospect than what we have with LJ to give him some competition. Having said that, we've made lots of changes on our line this year, and on our offense in general, and you really can't address everything in one year...

I am not disappointed in the guys we have but I would of liked the Dolphins to of signed Dielman in free agency.

I think we showed that we are tring to build our line threw the draft. We drafted a C in Satele and we have moved Mormino to Guard. Both players have surprise. Im happy with the current line, but I most agree my biggest worry is RT. If anything Im sure Alabi can compete with Shelton we also have rosenthal who started last year on the right side.

Because the guys in free agency simply wanted money that we felt they didn't deserve.

Satele is going to be a beast....how soon I don't know but I LOVE the guy.

The only glaring hole on the line to me is the left guard spot, and whether or not Carey can transition to left tackle of course.

Consider what New Orleans did last season with 5 new positional starters, new coach, new QB & new system:

1) They put their Right Tackle at Left Tackle w/ no prior experience
2) There starting Left Guard was their backup Right Tackle
3) Traded away pro-bowl Center, Draft day trade for Center from Cleveland
4) Rookie small school Right Guard
5) First year Right Tackle

Remember that Randy's brother Rick Mueller is VP of player personnel. It's not too unusual to think that Randy would be of a similar mind in building the O-line.

I certainly have high hopes for the players we have on hand, but it would be nice to have a good veteran presence on the line to be a leader out on the field. There are a lot of questions on the line that wont be answered until they suit up and start playing again'st competition.
I am really wondering about Carey, I remember how he struggled at LT before and he said he didn't like playing there and wasn't comfortable at the position.
Maybe under Houck's tutiledge he has turned the corner and developed into the player everyone hoped he would be and can lock down the position. It would be great if he does because that means we have solved a long frustraiting problem for the Dolphins.
It would be really great if Satele can bring stability to the center position and make it an anchor point and a strength rather than a weakness. Not saying Hadnot was bad but he was only average and didn't have that mean streak and wasn't aggressive enough to make it a strong point.
Shelton is a big question mark and I have to wonder how well he will play without Carey alongside of him?

Just because one team had success doesn't mean another team will have the same success. Besides the AFC has stronger D's than the NFC.

It doesn't mean another team can't have the same success either though. Too early to judge any offensive line moves for any team really, so much depends on the unit as opposed to other positions depending on individual play.

I really think that it came down to they didn't want to pay the money for an offense lineman when they feel that they have the talent here to develop a starting line. This line has shown a trend over the past couple years of starting slow and coming on late in the season. The cure for this problem I dont know, but I think this shows we have the players to make this work. I agree with earlier posts that Satele at center is an upgrade in two spots because we move Rex back to guard where he is best. LG is the biggest questionmark, Carey I feel will be good at LT after gaining some valuable experience. I just hope that somehow we can get this line working together from the get go and get these guys player good from the start so our offense has a chance.
