Early in the 2000's we had 2 10-6 records and didn't make the playoffs, the Ricky Williams saga, Nick Saban, the passing on Brees, drafting players like Eddie Moore when Q was available, Bill Parcells failure, issue with Dez Bryant, multiple failed draft picks, Cam Cameron and Ted Ginn, no Offense, wasting the careers or JT and ZT, the Sparano era, Dan Marino takin the president job then resigning, bullygate, players that can't make plays, coaches who are regularly out coached, Jeff Ireland, an Oline that is under constant reconstruction and has only been a solid line a handful of times in the past decade, number 2 overall pick not panning out, number one overall pick not panning out, now a good QB that can't hit the deep ball, and a deep threat that lacks toughness, route running ability and is having the case I the drops..... This is just off the top of my head, but has any team had worse luck the past decade...
This team is getting so difficult to watch

To much turnover at the top...might have more at the end of this year. While it might be warranted, it does not help. Continuity wins.

We have no consistence y whatsoever and we constantly make changes after 2 or 3 years each time. Thats why!

You gotta take out the garbage.

At some point, we are due for a regime that will kick ass...

Well two different owners and it seems like nobody can pick the correct coach. I think if we actually let things develop things might be better instead of pulling the hook so quick. Perfect example would be Bill Cowher who missed the playoffs 3 times in a row and till kept his job.

Or Jeff Fisher who missed the playoffs 13 times, but both rewarded their team with at least one super bowl appearance.

Shula. It is the curse of Shula. We decided "the grass was greener on the other side of the fence" and threw the best coach in football history onto the trash heap....we are getting what we deserve...

In order to survive injury and maintain high level success, you need:

1. Good coaching.

2. Good QB.

3. VERY important: Quality depth across the team -- depth that is always developing, good enough to push the starters & supplant them, good enough to step in at a moment's notice w. credible work...

4. AND real playmakers in the playmaker spots.

This HAS to be mostly drafted talent, given the nature of today's NFL.

Ipso facto: If you can't draft quality depth, and if you have zero clue on how to draft an value playmakers, you will be mired in mediocrity.

Basically the story of the last decade of the Miami Dolphins. Mega-high on mediocre talent (Hartine and Bess as playmakers?? lol right) + drafting clearly flawed and marginal players in high spots (Martin, Thomas, Egnew, etc. etc. etc.) = Current state of the Dolphins.

Sad, really.

Without quality talent, a coach has a more difficult job just to win more than lose. Shula could do that. Johnson could do that. Probably Saban too if he stuck around.
The rest of our coaches in that span were just horrible or rookies.
Bad GM + Bad talent + Bad coaching = Losing seasons ....Miami Dolphins football.

I know plenty of teams with average QB play that can win games.....Chiefs, 49ers, Bengals.

The franchise itself is just dumb. We never strike gold in the draft...that is problem number one. We draft "boring" positions incorrectly, and we draft exciting position incorrectly. Lets see who we picked with early picks. Jake Long, Ronnie Brown, Ted Ginn....none of them are on the team, or even good anymore. Dion Jordan? I am a fan, but we are going to ruin him because we don't even let him play.

That's baloney, the Dolphins are not 'snakebitten', much less more 'snakebitten' than other NFL franchises.

Every team faces the same types of issues. The difference is that the local press here live and breathe to write stories that exaggerate and make the Dolphins look as bad as possible.

The Raiders had an OLineman that went AWOL, and went berserk. The Bengals had a RB that went AWOL and went on a drug binge, BOTH of those happened the night before the super bowl.

There are PLENTY of NFL teams that have never been to the Superbowl.

What happens is the local press continuously churn out negative stories and the national media pick those up. What Saban did was blown completely out of proportion by the local press and reality is completely erased.

JJ and Wanstead's records like wise have been rewritten to be something completely out of proportion with the reality that EVERY OTHER team in the NFL deals with

This is what I've been saying for years, you can't overreact to peaks and valleys in this league or you will be in constant flux, overcompensating to chase success after luck, overreacting to bad luck; staying the course is the key to success like it or not
