For the few of you who think we can win with Jay as our QB as long as our line gets better and Ricky runs better. Everyone looks at the season we had 2 years ago where our offense looked pretty good and Ricky ran wild. Thinking that all we need is to get Ricky back to where he was and we can win. But, most of us were deceived by that. I will explain.
While Ricky was in New Orleans, he was a mediocre back at best and was injured every year he was there. He definitely did not live up to the hype of a heisman trophy running back who broke the NCAA record for yards. So when he was traded to Miami, most other teams had been overlooking Ricky Williams as just a solid back, and not as much as THE person you have to stop to beat the dolphins. Because of this, there was a lot of pressure off of ricky and his was able to run wild. Yes, our Oline was not as banged up then as it was last year. But, after the 1853 yard season he pulled he became recognized as the premeir back in the league and the formula for stopping the Miami Dolphins. This caused teams to just load the box and destroy ricky whenever he had a chance to bust out of the front line. They then put the pressure on Jay to take the pressure off of Ricky which definitely was not going to work for the dolphins and was a successful gameplan to beating the phins all season.
It's not as if Jay was a better QB 2 years ago, or that Ricky was a better back 2 years ago, it has to do with how teams attacked the dolphins. And after the 1853 yard season + Jay Fiedler as out QB, it was a no brainer how to stop us.
If Jay is our QB next yeat, teams will prepare for us the same exact way as last year and it will be hell for ricky and all of us fans one more year, because Jay does not have the skills to put a whole passing game on his shoulders. Jay needs ricky to run wild in order for him to be successful, but if teams continue to stack the box it will never happen.
Now, if we actually get a threatening QB who can be dangerous in the passing game teams will have no choice but to cover the pass which will open up lanes for ricky to run, as well as make the Oline look like they are doing a much better job...which they would be when there is less people to block. I hope I made sense.
