because he was drafted in the second round to replace him.
just like....
brian brohm is going to replace aaron rogers with the packers.
honestly, every team past henne twice except for the colts, and browns. even miami past him twice. that means that there are a 56 players better than chad henne in these peoples eyes. chad henne, is known for cracking under pressure. if chad henne were in this offense last year, he would have thrown 4 times as many ints as beck. the guy has an average release time, and doesnt move well in the pocket. his upside to me has to be limited because it looks like this guy peaked when he was a freshman in college. when he had braylon to throw the ball to, he flurished. he had hart for 4 years, and long for four years. now tell me if this guy were so great how come he was outproformed by john beck while john beck had far less talent. sure beck played against less superior teams but, against higher caliber teams he still didnt miss a beat. look at oregon during the bowl game his senior season. he dominated them without any effort.
here are facts about beck and henne. henne doesnt have as strong of an arm, smaller hands, far less accurate, less mobile, much slower release. the only thing that henne has on beck is his height and weight. im sorry but i rather have ability over size anyday. if size were the only thing that mattered bledsoe would have outproformed romo, and elvis grbac would have beat out young. im tired of people talking about becks slow decisions. what decision did he have last year? hike, and less than a second he is on his back. plus, cameron had beck on a limited playbook. when beck had a running game he did fine. against pitt and against philly he played solid. against the jets when miami had no running backs they sent the all out blitz every play! face it, john beck was given the worst offense to work with sense the 77 bucs. stop calling him a failure, and that he will get cut when miami picks up chris simms. if parcells were to cut john beck he would have done it by now. guess who is left on the dolphins draft chart? john beck!

This organization doesnt know if they have a qb, sure beck might end up being a solid player but so far he hasn't played well in this league and who knows if he will end up being solid or not. This team hand picked henne which if i were john beck would worry me but the fact remains the better qb will play and if its beck thats great if its henne thats great. 1 thing is for sure its better to have 2 options than one.

Our coaching staff knows that QB position is very hard to solidify.
This team is becoming the Miami Cowboys because of the number of ex-Dallas players, but there was no chance to trade Tony Romo to Miami.
During 2007 Beck was developing without solid RB (Ronnie was out by the time he started & Ricky went down after 6 plays) his o-line was bad, out of sync and his rookie stats can't serve as parameter to justify both his starter role nor his cutting.
It's too early to pass on John Beck. He's, like any other standard 2nd year thrower, a jewel in brute who needs to prove his worth and upgrade his execution performance.
On the other hand, while Dolphins hired Josh McCown, he has been a nice but irregular passer, so there's no warranty on him.
With such fragile situation under the most important piece of a football team, Sparano adds a guy able to develop and just in case none of Beck or McCown can perform as expected, Chad Henne will work as a low profile QB.
So yes, QB was a very urgent draft need, mostly because FA lacked of some solid veteran who could serve as mentor for Beck
There's also the new HC factor: Everybody wants to add his own flavor to the system, specially on rebuilding franchises, normally that translates as hiring a new QB, one who can become the leading image.

Brian Brohm actually has a great chance to replace Aaron Rodgers. I can't believe how low his stock went. Dude went from the best QB prospect starting the season to 3rd best.

Funny how a few workouts decides the NFL career; Brohm was on a whole other level than Henne at quarterback, it wasn't even close. Had he been the QB at Michigan, they would have won more games with him.

I don't see it that way, I see it as having two young prospects as a possibility instead of just one.

Let them compete, and let the best man win.

Judging by the draft the NFL disagrees with you!
