I have always argued with fans that it is not Ireland's draft failures that are hurting the team, it is his replacement strategies.
One year he replaced the entire OL with sub par players
he traded Ginn but no replacement
he then traded Marshall then again no replacement, finally he gutted the linebackers with again terrible replacements. Just read the article, you'll understand better...

Before I even read the article: BECAUSE WE DO NOT TACKLE WELL and WE DO NOT SWARM THE BALL. It's really as simple as that.

Now I will read the article. :)

It's draft too, but replacement strategies have been abysmal.

Philbin wanted a defense that could put pressure on an opposing QB. Croyle want pressure players to make that happen. too bad Irish went out got the pressure players that forgot how to tackle.

IMO, it's more a matter of scheme fit rather than individual player actually sucks.

I really think the main reason we suck against the run, is because we're focused on being better against the pass. Which we are. It's the way our team is being built under Philbin, that's why he's always talking about the importance of fast starts, we want to get a lead, and let our pass rush take us home

You did it. You got me to click open Armando abomination. There he was with his little chipmunk face and that's when I closed my browser tab.

While most people have always hated Wheeler, I've thought all along that Ellerbe is the problem. As the middle linebacker, he should be meeting the rb's in the hole nearly every play. But he completely disappears. Wheeler at least is running around like a maniac, albeit missing tackles. But he doesn't look nearly as bad if Ellerbe is doing his job...
