McIntosh was absolutely terrible last year at LT (worst in the NFL IMO), while Cary has looked decent in the preseason. Granted, McIntosh was working through an injury and probably never 100 percent a year ago. Plus, I recognize that he did play fairly well in San Diego under Houch, although I believe it was at RT mostly. Wouldn't it be easier to put McIntosh at RT to battle McDougle and leave Carey at LT? Either way, at least early on, this looks like an area the team will have to address in the draft next year.

Wrong. Mcintosh was not terrible. Wade Smith was terrible. atrocious. god awful! mcintosh had to come to a new deal and get over his ankle deal in the 2nd game and we went from there. Have some perspective. If we didnt have Mcintosh, we would have all turned our TV sets off in the first quarter in disgust.

don't know but Houck knows what he's doing

McIntosh is and always has been a LT; even in San Diego. He was subpar last year coming back from an injury sooner than he should have. As was already mentioned W. Smith was atrocious and McIntosh was hurried back.

I hate to see him moved personally. If they are going to suck I want them to at least not have endless shifts to blame for ruining their cohesiveness.

MacIntosh was injured much of last season, he is healthier now and knows Houck's schemes. Carey is more of a prototypical RT anyway, that is a roadgrader. McIntosh has better feet than Carey. Finally, McDougle's demotion was, in part, imo, a signal to ALL the Olinemen to get on board with the program. He missed an assignment and had a motion penalty. Actions, especially stupid ones on the field, have serious consequences in Sabanworld!

Probably because VC is a better RT than DM is a LT. Also because the drop off from VC to DM at LT would be greater than the drop off from VC to DM at RT.

Basically because VC is a better run blocker.

Carey is probabaly the better LT when all is said and done, but some players cannot switch from LT to RT, and I think McIntosh is one of them. They tried McIntosh at RT over McDougle one practice and immediately switched him back.

IMO,
Right now at this stage of Careys development:
Hes a RT 80% effective, at LT hes 50% effective.

Eventually he challange for the LT position but not right now.

Yes, that I believe. Guess I'm not sold on McIntosh just yet, but I will trust Houck.

Calm down big guy...it's okay...My only concern with McIntosh is that Carey was beating him out until McDougal's problems popped up. I expected McIntosh to hold off Carey, so that let's me know he's our 2nd best option..so who do we use for depth if Carey or him get hurt? That's my concern..

Damn, Houck made a very good line out of Oben-Fonoti-Hardwick-Goff-Olivea. 2 rookies, 1 a 6th rounder and traded for their LT and Fonoti was finally healthy. It's not to dissimilar to what we have but I'm not sure at what point that group was cemented as the starters. Where's LT-21 when u need him?

Well one big difference is Hardwick was a center who could and we don't have one of those. Atleast not in McKinney.

One thing that bothers me about DMac is that he was with Houck in San Diego and they decided to let him walk...
