I have to put some of this on the coaching. I know this team has almost no talent, but a good coach in such cases will do his best to cover up the problems...such as rolling out of the pocket. How many times did they roll out tonight. I can't think of many...that's for damn sure.

If all a defense has to do is straight up-field rush...of course they are going to be smiling...

I don't see any game-planning to cover the warts on this team.

I've said this before:

You have to adjust based on a QB's strengths & weaknesses.

Ryan Tannehill is the opposite of Dan Marino.

Ryan Tannehill has weak pocket presence, but is a good runner.

He should spend less time in the pocket, and have more read-option runs and designed rollouts.

It's no surprise that Tannehill's best passer rating was in 2014, when he had lots of read-option runs, and had the most rushing attempts.

Rolling out just to get him away from Atkins eating souls in the interior all night would not have been a bad idea.

Easier said than done. We need a couple good pulling guards, some athletic tackles that can move with the pocket and not get beat off the line. None of of which we have outside of Tunsil and maybe Pouncey

Doesn't it seem like everytime Ryan is rolling out he's running full speed to escape the inevitable unblocked D Lineman chasing him down

True but this vanilla offen of 3 and 5 step drops for dink and dunk passes failed for 4 straight years. Doing more of the same is just crazy. Tannehill is not a pocket passer and has piss poor pocket awareness anyway. As a coach, you have to vary this to even have a shot at consistently moving the ball. You don't do it every time, but you do it often enough to confuse the defense or at least put it in their minds. The rush patterns for the defensive lines is always push the middle straight on and wide outside rushes. It work most of the time. Chip the ends and roll him out for Christ sakes!
