Everyone on here seems to have narrowed there opinions down to fisher, philbin or bowles. Carmichael is just as good of a candidate. Like Philbin, he is "offensive coordinator" but doesnt really call the plays BUT he has been hands on a lot more (from what i hear) and unlike philbin (who was o-line coach) he was Brees QB coach, and can receive a lot of credit for bress being a top 2 QB in the league. Miami has reached out to carmichael before as OC but its only a matter of time before he gets his shot at HC. He would bring in a high powered offense that most fans want.

IMO he is a lot better of a choice for HC than staying SAFE and getting fisher cuz of his name. You know what you are getting with fisher and to be honest, it isnt that great of a resume. He is the best "proven" coach out there but thats not saying much cuz there isnt many "proven" coaches out there

If we do not get Fisher, I would not be surprised to see the team request permission to interview him.

id assume that we would have to wait until the saints are out of the playoffs though which could be a while

Carmichael can't interview until the Saints lose. They don't have home field advantage because the Rams beat them early in the season. F**k the Rams.

I'm not sold on the guy.

It just seems like that offense is Payton's doing. Didn't Carmichael call two games after Payton tore up his knee?? And I think the offense slowed down(from their standards) during those games. I guess there could be worse hires than him though.

until fisher goes elsewhere (if he does) we are stuck talking about and pining for him.

im with you though - not necessarily for carmichael, but just to explore more options and mostly on the offensive side of the ball. Why we are married to fisher is beyond me.

Yeah he called the game against the colts where they scored over 60

No, actually the offense flourished under Carmichael's play calling.

The Saints players love Carmichael. So what?? So this means the Dolphins would have a big leg up when it comes to signing the Saints free agents. Guys like Carl Nicks(the best LG in the NFL), Robert Meachem(WR with 4.3 speed, deep threat who can track the ball well and has good size), Aubrayo Franklin(solid NT if Soliai doesn't re-sign),Shaun Rogers(DL depth.)
IMO Meachem is looking like he is headed for a breakout year. He would fit perfectly on the Dolphin roster and with the right draft choices things could really be freed up in the secondary for Marshall as well.

More important than the FA's, Aaron Kromer the OL coach has overseen the best OL in football the last few years. Dolphins were 31st in pass protection in 2011; this is an area of huge need and nobody could bring more to the Dolphins in this area than Carmichael,Kromer, and Carl Nicks. Dolphins could give Kromer the Assistant Head Coach title and more money to woo him along with Carmichael.

This should really be a no-brainer for a team like the Dolphins, but, sadly, this is the Dolphins organization, and it seems like some kind of curse has removed all wisdom from Dolphin decision makers.

The Saints are running the most successful offense in the league and no other is even close. The Pats are a very distant 2nd.

Wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a good chance the Saints are forced to tag Brees.

With half a brain the Dolphins could be a fielding a top 5 offense and a top defense next year.

Yeah he did. But he also did the game where they scored only 20 against the Rams. Thats the game I was remembering hearing about how out of sync they were .

I wouldn't say flourished. Yeah they had that huge game against Indy, but c'mon it was Indy. They also had the bad game against STL where they only scored 20 so I wouldn't say they flourished.

Also we won't be signing any Saints just because of him. It will all come down to the money so I don't think we pick any coach just because his former players like him and it might get us a free agent or two.

I'm just not sure on the guy. In my opinion, Sean Payton is a genius and really an creative offensive mind. I'm just worried that Carmichael is getting a little more credit for Payton's work than he should. The history of Belicheck's disciples is what has me worried. Crennell, Weis, Mangini, and McDaniels all turned out to be horrible head coaches when they got away from Belicheck. I'm worried Payton's disciples will turn out to be the same.

Who knows though, he could turn out to be a great coach and I'll have to laugh about being worried about hiring him. I guess if Fisher doesn't come, then it's really a crapshoot between some of these assistants.

People are so in favor of the team running out and hiring a Philbin or Carmichael simply because of their association with successful teams that feature dynamic offenses that can score a ton of points. It kills me. I'm sure both guys are good coaches or they wouldn't have the jobs they do now. However, why does everyone act like it is some foregone conclusion that if one of them got the HC gig in Miami, the offense would suddenly be explosive? Guess what? It still takes great players. The Packers and Saints have two of the best QB's in the league. They also have a ton of talent at the other skills positions.

I'm not saying philosophy and systems don't matter, either, because they do. It simply isn't the only factor. Anyone with a modicum of real football knowledge could watch Packers and Saints game film and tell exactly what plays they are running. A lot of the success comes with calling plays in the right situations. Do any of you have a clue if either Philbin or Carmichael are blessed with that ability, because I sure as hell don't. A lot of you act like these guys are almost magic cure-alls that gleaned everything by osmosis just from being around those teams and head coaches.

Is it possible guys like these two can be successful NFL head coaches? Sure. Just don't act like it's a given. Call me crazy, but retread or not, I'd be much more comfortable with Jeff Fisher. I don't care about him being the biggest name out there. I care that he knows what the hell he is doing with 100% certainty. You can't just spout off the "6 playoff teams in 17 years" thing or whatever it is without looking at the whole picture. Do none of you believe Jeff Fisher could find a capable offensive coordinator if he were hired, or what?

Any coach we sign has a big chance of failing even fisher. Just cuz he has some mediocre sucess in tennessee doesn't guarentee it here in miami. And yes carmichael does have a top 2 QB in the league but carmichael is a big part of why brees is so good. He is brees QB coach, he is in the room with brees every week going over gameplan and watching film along with peyton. Bress wasn't a top 5 QB when he came to the saint, cuz if he was he would have had more options than to choose between miami and the "aints" when he was a FA. Carmichael is very good at developing QBs and is involved heavily in gameplanning with the offense

TBH I'd be alot more confident with Carmichael than Philbin...
