Why not Pete Carmichael JR?

Ya me too. Honestly philbin isn't the packer coach that I want the most for HC. I'd rather take Tom Clements over Philbin

Any coach we sign has a big chance of failing even fisher. Just cuz he has some mediocre sucess in tennessee doesn't guarentee it here in miami. And yes carmichael does have a top 2 QB in the league but carmichael is a big part of why brees is so good. He is brees QB coach, he is in the room with brees every week going over gameplan and watching film along with peyton. Bress wasn't a top 5 QB when he came to the saint, cuz if he was he would have had more options than to choose between miami and the "aints" when he was a FA. Carmichael is very good at developing QBs and is involved heavily in gameplanning with the offense

You missed my point. I never claimed that there were any guarantees with anyone. Quite the contrary. That's exactly why I was saying I would rather have Fisher over two guys who are coordinators and even then don't call plays. Like I said, both guys seem to be good coaches. Fisher has a proven track record, though. You may consider it mediocre, but I consider it a good one. He was there for 16 years. The way the league is, it is nearly impossible to be really successful for that long. You can't only look at the record and think that tells the whole story about how good a coach he is.

Ultimately, it always comes down to the players. Pete Carmichael, Jr. may well have helped Drew Brees a lot in New Orleans. Guess what. He's still Drew Brees. It's not like the guy took JP Losman and turned him into Aaron Rodgers. The talent was there already. As far as your "point" about only the Saints and Dolphins being interested in him in the 2006 offseason, well that was because he had just shredded his shoulder. It was certainly not performance related at all, dude. I was saying to avoid falling into the trap of assuming because he is a coach on a successful team with a high powered offense that he will definitely be a successful head coach, with sustained success and exciting, high powered offenses. It doesn't work that way very often, actually.

Give me the guy who's been there before. It's not like Fisher is 70 years old and is all burned out, and he clearly has the most important qualities needed in an NFL head coach. I have no Earthly friggin' idea if Carmichael or Philbin do. I get that everyone likes the new and is excited over the possibility of an offense like that, but don't be shortsighted.

It is well known that Philbin helped make that offense and taught the Qb's and WR's to run routes in different situations and read the defense. Philbin is the guy that makes adjustments at halftime because while he may not be calling the plays, he helps set up the gameplan is observing what the defense is doing, and then they adjust.

Another point, He is highly reguarded by Mike Mcarthy and has nothing but good things to say about him and that his opportunity as a HC is well deserved.

In other words, he has the goods and knows his stuff.

Guys like Carmichael and Philbin do not call plays, but they set up the Offense and gameplan and coach the Offense. That to me is more along the lines of what qualities in knowledge make a HC. Not whether they call the plays or not. Thats why special teams coaches often make good HC, they are working with alot of different talent and adjusting.

A lot of people arent sold on carmichael based on the fact that he doesnt call the offensive plays for the saints BUT ever since sean payton got hurt, carmichael has called the plays and has been doing so the last 7 weeks (even with payton back) and there offense has averaged 520 ypg! I am sold on him and i think he is the best option for us.

Saints Offense - TM - Saints

Saints OC Pete Carmichael has retained play-calling duties since coach Sean Payton returned to the sidelines following a broken leg.

Regarded as one of the most advanced play-callers in the league, Payton maintains final say and continues to offer suggestions. Carmichael, meanwhile, has the Saints offense averaging over 520 yards per game over the past seven weeks. He's building quite a reputation, to the point where the Saints have to be concerned about losing him to a head coaching job.

Yeah he called the game against the colts where they scored over 60

Actually he's been calling all of the plays (10 weeks) since Peyton was hurt. Here's a link to PFT with the article. Carmichael is who I've wanted all along.

Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. did such a good job calling plays when head coach Sean Payton was unable to earlier this year, Payton has kept him in the role.
This is a change from previous years in New Orleans. Payton had called every play for six season in New Orleans, according to Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
“We’re on a roll, and obviously he’s doing a great job — not just a good job, he’s doing a great job,” quarterback Drew Brees said. “I think we all feel comfortable with the way the dynamics have been here the last 10 weeks.”

Get the man in here as soon as you can...would be my #1 choice. Interview him along with Chud and take the one that seems to have the best plan.

Would love to see Carmichael interviewed. He has been my top choice of assistants for awhile.
