almost every play at the line when the ball is snaped there is some kind of holding .every team ,every player gets away with holding.then a ref will make a call of HOLDING .really come on man it happens all game long how on earth can you let one go and call another.i would not mind if holding was taken out only at the line of scrimage except holding the wr.
what do you think:ponder::ponder::ponder:

Sure... as long as the defensive players can go back to head slaps, etc.... What about take downs? Then the linemen with collegiate wrestling experience will all be in demand.

No way.

Huh...of all the crazy thoughts I have had over the years on how to improve the game this was not one of them.

just because it happens every play doesnt mean its out of control. if there was no penelty it would get out of control and the pass rush would suffer.

Foootball should then change it's name to wrestling football. There are a lot of holdings, but not in every play. If they weren't a penalty, it would be a terrible game visually.

Rather than do away with the penalties, the league needs to crack down, and make the coaches start coaching correct technique.

This is a prime example of one of the many gray areas that allow the outcome of the game to be manipulated. There's just too much money from gambling to allow things to naturally happen. Besides the holding, just look over the last 30 years how the rules have changed on simple receptions, and how many exceptions and rules have to be met now for a ball to be complete. In the 70s if you held onto the ball for a micro second in the end zone it was a touchdown. Now they will get 20 things including how long you held onto the ball.

Don't even get me going about “the Tuck rule”, or “the in the grasp rule” of the 80s.

We need the holding penalties, but I am a fan of going back to allowing CB's to do press coverage. There really is no counter to a good spead offense anymore with all the rules protecting WR's and QB's.

Exactly, 5 years ago they used to call that “a pancake” when an offense player would level a defender. Now they call it holding. It's ridiculous.

This subject makes my mind go back to the Seattle Pittsburgh Super Bowl were Pittsburgh scores a touchdown when the ball was a good half foot from the end zone. If the Commissioner wants to fix the game it's imperative to get the officials at least up to speed with television. Nothing is more embarrassing than using the call a full 2 min. before the ref can even make a decision.

Talk about “come on man” Moments

I mean if it's blatantly obvious then it is going to get called. The main reason I see it not called is when it is either away from the lay or when the referee just doesn't have a good view on it.

FUN FACT: there aren't enough referees to see everything.

I do get pissed when Wake gets held a lot, but I've seen us get away with some penalties too. We tend to remember when we get screwed over but not when we get one our way.

Yea. I agree. Ill move this thread to my "great ideas" file right next to the "Move Zach to SS" thread.
