I see these threads of fans panicing because we didnt go out and overpay for a free agent. Think about this:

1. The Jets paid $48M for Scott who had 82 tackles last year, we paid Crowder $15M and he had 113 tackles.

2. Albert Haynesworth received $100M dollars. The largest defensive contract in NFL history the largest Guarantee money ($41M) in NFL history. The Titans have never been to the Super Bowl with Haynesworth and in the post season for his career he averged 2.1 tackles per game and .14 sacks.

3.Haynesworth tackles=51 Vonnie Holiday tackles=46.

4. How out of control is this market? Sage Rosenfelds got $9M even though he has been a career backup and single handedly lost games for Houston.

Look, there is NO reason to go out and overpay a player. In these examples particularly, Tennessee nor the Ravens made it to the Super Bowl in any of the years these players played.

Those of you who are star struck by big FA names remember the above when you throw a tantrum because Miami did not blow their cap for the next five years to overpay in free agency.

You build through the draft and a few FA that "make sense".

I agree. FA is out of control. Ask Jet and Skin fans if they enjoy FA year in and year out.

RARELY do these big signings work out...especially for those two teams. But really for most teams they overpay. I can think of more busts then I can success stories. Dolphin legend and team broadcaster Jim Mandich always says "teams don't let great players go". While on occassion this is true, for the most part he is right.

jets were in a bidding war against themselves for scott and upped there original offer. what a bunch of fools. ha ha ha.

I totally agree....get solid players fill some holes where the draft may be weak and get better...shelling out 50mill for a guy who is good but never done anything spectacular doesnt make you a good football team.....how did last year go for the jest who spent a billion in the off season....oh thats right 9-7 and a final game loss to "noodle arm" and the Dolphins.

This years draft is weak in the secondary so we get Wilson and resign Bell. Look for us to get a solid NOT STUD CB a guy like Bodden, or McFadden will make our D better and will save us from spending an early pick on a CB.

We have filled some holes and get this FA is like 36 hours old we have plenty of time till uhhh i donno week 12 of the season to bring in guys.

How bad does that Rosenfels thing smell of AJ Feeley?

Everyone says you overpay in FA, which may be true, but it's also true that players who are a known quantity just cost a lot. And you can't fill ALL of your holes through the draft.

That said I'd never wants Haynesworth for 100 mil. If I had 100 mil though, I'd bet it against the Skins getting the the Superbowl...

The worst thing about the Haynesworth deal is last year he was one of the highest paid DT's at 6+mil, so give him a raise to 8.5mil still only makes a 7 year contract shy of 60mil. Why pay him 14mil a season when it's completely not needed, that's a waste of over 40mil and has a direct affect on other FA's coming up. Wilfork and Ngata have to be the happiest people when they saw that, 2010 their both UFA's.
What a stupid contract, now we as fans will end up paying the price. I hope you guys are getting ready for pay per view because that's where were headed!!!!

My question is what happens to these teams that signed all these guys to these overpriced contatcs in 2010 if things change to being uncapped? Do they get off the hook for bad spending policies? These teams are going to get a free pass, well not free but you know what I mean.

While I am the subject, can anyone tell me if there is any date this year that if we do cut Wilford we dont take the fully salary cap hit this season?

ISnt it the June 1st date?

I agree with you for the most part but stats don't say everything.. Holliday may has nearly the same tackles as Haynesworth but I think that we all agree that Haynesworth is more disruptive and more dominant than Vonnie..

Speilman part deaux... Surprised it wasnt a 2nd like he gave for Feeley

I am sorry to correct you on that one but in french the number two is spelled deux not deaux ;)

Well i wouldnt want to bring in a guy at week 12. He wont have much effect on the season.
