late in the game we needed to score a TD... why within that last minute was basically every play a play-action??? obviously we are passing, its not gonna get people to bite, plus i would rather have Pennington drop back out of center or at least in shotgun, looking forward at the defense and making reads... instead of turning from the defense with a pointless play action. we dont have great WR's to cause great seperation or run beautiful patterns either, he needs to be able to see the field and read, especially in that situation at the end of the game..... that frusturated me

BANE:

i thought i was the ONLY one who noticed that.

when he was backing up, shoulders square to the
o-line with 4 steps back, he was picking them apart,
they couldnt stop it.

mainly because as soon as the ball was in his hands,
he could see the defense. he had that exra second to
read and decide.

we couldnt run all day. and, they KNEW we were not going to
run in that situation. so all this did was make chad's life more
miserable while having to pop around, pull the ball back in,
look down field with the defense getting there MUCH quicker
and leaving him less time.

i was SCREAMING at the tv and my wife was baffled and traumatised!

that more than anything cost us that last second win. EVERY time
he ran playaction, the play fell incomplete. when he didnt, it was a
possitive play [on that last drive]. it took time away and left us with
that last prayer play.

i am SO SICK of having to post these kind of things EVERY year!

wheres our matt ryan, our eddie royal? our WIN?

MP08!!

agreed.. what really chaped my a$$ was passin the ball from the 2 twice instead of running

The only thing that makes any sense was maybe he felt more comfortable going to play action because when he was doing play action i could see he was completing more passes jmo

EXCELLENT POINT!!! I was wondering the same thing.

Its almost like Sparano wasn't trying to win. I agree with you bane, I just didn't understand some of the calls that were being made in the game. When you are two yards away from the endzone with Ronnie and Ricky...PUNCH it in my goodness. When you are 18 yards away from victory with 13-12 seconds left....THROW it in, no one is expecting the pass anyway.

It was a very exciting game to see but I think we could have one if only a few minor changes had been made in playcalling. I don't know but we better win next week.

*pretneds to hold up gigantic imaginery phone* So Mister Henning, why were you calling Play action plays during the 4th qtr on clearly passing downs?

Henning: Well you see, I hate finheaven.

Anyway, the reason is probably very simple. Pennnington doesn't know the whole playbook yet. I mean really, all day long they talked about how Favre only knew 75% of the Jets playbook, yet not one commentator commented on how Pennington is in the exact same friggin boat.

write this down, please.

SPARANO DOESN'T CALL THE PLAYS.

As far as the end of the game playcalling, Sparano said in his Day After presser that they saw the Jets send in the goalline package so they call an "either or play", meaning that if we read man to man coverage that we will pass the ball based on that read. If they were not in that coverage they will run the ball. He said Chad made the right read and that they just didn't execute it properly. He said that play has been sucessful in the league for years.

well sure it has been succesfull for years in the nfl tony!

except those teams used 6-3 wr's over 5-11 db's.

[see oronde gadsden]

it wasnt executed properly from the sky box and
side line. [thats you and henning tony!]

I posted this a couple of times in different threads. Why are we doing PA when they know we aren't going to run?

A good play action fake is ALWAYS useful, no matter the time of game. Defensive players, especially linebackers, are taught to read and react since the first moment they step on that side of the ball and their instinct is to attack. Although less likely to fool anyone in that situation, we're just trying to cause a false step that can cause an opening.
