Listen, im no advocate of gus the bust. In fact, I said before the Tampa game that he was never going to get us where we needed to go and would eventually be a bust, and yet got verbally smacked down by almost everyone here, saying he's doing what we need to win.

Now, hes not. So, lets remember back to why Saban chose him over Feeley and Rosenfels in the first place.

The reason he was brought here was because he knew the system Linehan was going to put into place. He was a short term quarterback to fill the void until we could train someone younger to take his place (Lemon? Someone new? who knows)

He beat out Feeley, who is at about the same talent level as him, but without the knowledge of the system.

The players took to him more, called him a true leader on the field.

And mostly, the fans took to him as well. They saw Feeley as Wanny and Spielmens last mistake and wanted that tie to an old era gone. Now everyone is clammoring for Frerottes head, even to the point of suggesting throw Lemon in.

Bottom line is, Saban wont take Frerotte out just yet. If New Orleans goes sour and Gus puts up the same stats he has for the past few games, expect there to be a real QB controversy. But for the same reasons gus was brought here, hes going to stay in. And lets count our lucky stars that we have a coach who knows the future is key, not the present, and that soon enough Gus will be a decent second stringer to our new franchise QB, whoever that may be.

Im sorry, but the thread had the word Gus in the title. Now, if you actually opened it up expecting something about someone OTHER then our QB, then perhaps you should stop and think for a second.

If you dont want to read a thread about our QB, dont open it. Just skip it and move on. Some of us have an opinion and would like to not be criticized by some fool who opens their mouth before thinking.

It's not that buddy, but It's sad how people are saying Saban is a bust and all!! Sorry for your thread

Gus may suck but what other option did Saban have? There really wasn't a Franchise QB available in last year's draft, unless you think that Rodgers and Smith are going to be great QB's. I am glad he passed on those and happy we got a quality running back in RB. If Gus can't get it done against NO, then we probably should start Sage, and maybe give Lemon a few snaps as well. Our QB situation is not going to magically improve overnight. I hope Saban will draft a QB like Vince Young next year, even if we have to work out a deal to move up a few spots. Then trade away Gus and keep Sage and Lemon as backups.

Testtube...I am an admitted Gus hater from the day we signed him. I've said the same things about Gus. He might be able to be our stop gap guy but I doubt it. Still do. What Saban does now is very important to the rest of the team. If he sits Gus and plays Sage or Lemon, he's telling the vets that he's given up on the season (or at least it very well could be construed that way by many of them). If he stays with Gus...well what we have we have. So how he handles the next few weeks will tell volumes about how successful he is going to be viewed as after this season.

He's in quite a quandry...I'd like nothing more than to see Gus on the bench, but I'm not too sure that Sage or Lemon are quite what most fans want out of the QB position either. There is a reason they are sitting on the pine right now. I'm not going to be too upset if he stays with Gus a little longer, even tho I don't think Gus will ever be any better. He has several other holes that need fixing in the dam as well...

Why can't we get an Eli, Peyton or another Marino in the next few draft? Any talent in the next few drafts that would be remotely close to one of these guys?

I rather have Smith playing and learning a year...than waste a year on Gus.

When the Bills coach sat their starter for their backup...was he telling the team the season was lost...or I'm sitting a player thats not ready or able to start? Sitting Gus wouldn't be the end of the season for the Dolphins...but it could be the end of Gus....and whats wrong with that?

There is never going to be "another Marino."

I have to disagree with you here. Saban's vacuous quotes regarding things like "knowing the system" and "poise in the pocket" and "managing the game" are all smokescreens for the real reason, which is that Saban and Linehan went with their crony Gus. Today, only Michael Vick and Kyle Orton are rated lower. Gus hasn't gotten it done, and he's given no indication that he will change.

Playing Gus, rather than sitting him, might be more of an indication that Saban is giving up on the season.
