I read a post on the forum about Players who need to be cut and it motivated me to post my 1st thread.

Let me preface this by saying I am a die hard Phins fan and have been my entire life regardless that I live in NY in Jets/Giants/Bills country. So I hear criticism a ton.

What I do see on here is a lot of B.S about cutting certain players. A couple I really want to address:

1 - Ted Ginn: This is the most hated WR on our roster next to Wilford. I think a lot of people are expecting Ginn to be the next T.O or Chad Johnson and thus because he isn't, your all ready to cast him off as a bust. If ANYONE looked at his numbers they have improved. But what is more impressive is he has improved CONSIDERING he has had to adjust to Cleo Lemon, John Beck, Josh McCown, and now Chad Pennington...AS WELL as a whole new offensive system and organization culture. Get off Ginn, if we lost him by cutting him loose a lot of people would be changing your tune in a few years. Think of him as a Terry Glenn type with a potential (although slight) to be a Steve Smith type WR.

2- Channing Crowder: Love hearing all the rips on him and the call to cut him. Give me a break. The dude is SOLID. Don't believe me? Research his stats but when you do ALSO look hard at the KC game and see how our lineup would look without him. Also Consider that he played injured against the jets and Ravens. Enough said. We need to BUILD, not keep interchanging parts. That is half the reason we have been failing.

3- Samson Satele - Guy is a beast. Look how many sacks he gave up THEN go on a rant. He is consistent and tough as nails. Not too many times will you see him on the injury list. So get over it and GET REAL

4 - Vernon Carey - Had a solid season. Consider that he also has played EVERy position at the line making him more impressive and also more valuable/versatile. He had a good year don't fault him for having an off day against the Ravens of all Defenses....Jeez

5 - Renaldo Hill - This guy makes me wanna pull my hair out.Seriously. BUT as much as I cringe when I see his name in the secondary he is a LEADER and relishes the role as LEADER. He has a high football IQ (which doesn't ALWAYS translate on the field as far as play goes) and is a hell of a mentor for any Safety we draft. I say resign him.

6- Jason Allen - Made GREAT strides this year. I think he is a solid dime or nickel corner and a GOOD special teams player. Again, take into consideration how many positions he has played. Versitility is value. He is damn fast 2 and you never hear a gripe out of him. Sure he isn't a shut down, but he did a good job against Moss and showed a ton of promise.

7 - Matt Roth - Your a fool if you think we should lose him. He has a motor like Porter and decent speed. I saw him in the backfield agains the Ravens and not MANY Phins were. We played a great team and a SOLID veteram O-Line. They used a TON of box blocking protection schemes such as Jumbo and 3 TE sets....against or 3-4...It's tough enough to win that matchup as it is but take into account it was the Ravens D...so get off of dude. Sign him up and seal the deal!

Those are just my thoughts on this whole thing. Yes I am disappointed but we played a great team. Chad tried to make things happen and it didn't work but he is the QB we have to live and die with. He got us this far and is going to be a heck of a mentor for Henne...

I love the passion but let's be realistic.

As far as the draft....go with the lines again. Long and Lankford were excellent picks and Merling wasnt too shabby. Think they are bad?!?! We could have drafted Ghoulston!!! I say we go DT 1st round, then DB/Safety with our 2nd round picks....3rd would be a good spot to nab a Guard...Keep in mind WRs are always deep in the draft and we aren't DESPERATE for a WR anymore. Free Agency is always an option.

Hope you guys aren't too brutal on me! this is my first thread. But if any of you head up to NY for any reason, check out this site:

Any words on Will Allen? I been looking all over this forum and no one has anything to say about the guy. Yes he made some good plays throughout the year, but how many times did he fall on his own and allowed teams to get 3rd down conversions? Just to name a few, 49ers game.

Every player you mention here is a serviceable NFL starter. None are difference makers, and none of them likely ever will be. This management team is about upgrading to the highest level possible - players that are IMPACT players and force the other teams to scheme for. NONE of these guys are that.

I agree that some are more of a priority upgrade (Hill) than others are (Roth). But make no mistake that Ireland/Parcells will only be re-signing guys like Crowder and Carey if the price is right. They both think they are worth more than they really are.

Stop falling in love with "motor" and the illusion of a "motor." At the end of the day, it is results that matter. Crowder has a great motor, but his results are not there. He is not an impact player. He cleans up the garbage inside while often overrunning plays and losing his gap responsibility. He has no impact in the pass rush when called upon, and is nowhere near worth $4M annually or whatever he thinks he is. He expects to "get paid." If he does get paid like that, it won't be in Miami.

ginn needs to get moved to the slot, only way that happens is if we land a big target WR in offseason

crowder can easily be replaced if we can land maybe james lauranidis in the first round. or a big name FA LB, if there are any

jason allen needs to be cut, he has not lived up to his first round money or potential. that horrible injury he suffered in college has made him average, he needs to take a pay cut or just be cut in general

satele doesnt need to be moved, but he can improve in the offseason

roth seems to not be able to shed blocks, let alone defend a TE or slot WR when needed. he hasn't sniffed a pass rush in over a month, i cant remember the last time he had a sack. idk if he needs to get cut or moved back to DL, but OLB isn't working for him.

carey is solid now that he is back to his normal position, less pressure when we get smiley back.

renaldo hill isn't that good to me either. we can surely find a decent FS in the draft to replace him. we need to start fresh at the CB/S positions, i think that will be a focus of our draft

Just my own thoughts -
the main knock on Ginn is the expectation of a #9 overall pick contributing more than he has so far. I think he'll be fine in the long run, however. Give him this off season and all with Pennington and I could see him having a break out year.

Crowder has been middle of the pack. Whether or not he stays depends on how much money he expects.

Satele is NOT a beast. He struggles with DTs who rely on power while matching up pretty well against finesse players. He may be gone. Or relegated to back up.

Carey has done really well, I think. Plus he can play LT. Unfortunately, he may be looking for a contract in line with a LTs. Some team is most likely going to try to lure him away to play LT and throw alot of money at him. He may be gone.

Hill will be easy to replace with a more talented player - trust me.

Allen's main knock is the same as Ginn's. For where he was drafted you just want to see more, and sooner. Hopefull he pans out.

Now Roth is a beast. He's been outstanding against the run this year. I can't imagine Roth going anywhere. Hardly any teams even run at him, anymore.

Good Post. I agree. Alot of these players are good. We just choked choked choked against the Ravens like we did all year last year.
