If the Dolphins start Sage Rosenfels, then Linehan will probably be pissed. This will cause Linehan to start calling more running plays (which I think we all agree needs to be done.) The Dolphins will get more "conservative" on offense, which actually, is more "aggressive" seeing how we can not throw the ball with accuracy. Starting Sage will accomplish many things: It will show Gus that his performance is not acceptable, it will most likely cause us to rush the ball more and throw shorter high percentage passes, and we will play the style of football that we played on offense when we had success against teams like carolina and denver- we stayed committed to the run.... and the only way we will do that, is if linehan sees his boy Frerotte's butt on the bench.

I don't know why Linehan would be pissed that the guy he recommended and knows his system . hasn't done the things he brought him in for. The logical thing would be a change. And if that means changing his playcalling so be it. But i agree.

But do you see him changing his playcalling with Gus still in the lineup? If Sage is in and he tries to "nurse" him, then maybe even Randy McMike will get more passes thrown his way in the short passing and underneath game.

It seems that Linehan is in love with Gus, and I have no idea why. Take away the Denver game (which looks like a fluke now), and Gus has been consistently throwing bad passes. It's not as if he's not making the right decisions, it's just that he lacks the accuracy to deliver the ball properly. If Gus makes 60% of his throws in the kansas city game, then we probably win.
Even if Sage starts, I still expect Linehan to take as many shots deep downfield. I think alot of the mid-range stuff will be abandoned in favor of runs or short passes, which should work toward the strength of this team.
It's as if Linehan still thinks he is in Minnesota, trying to get the ball to Randy Moss and covering up a lack of a running game. Trouble is, we have the complete opposite situation here in Miami. We should be modeling our offense on the Steelers instead of last year's Vikings.

Believe it or not, our offense would be better off run, run, pass like we did in the old days. Throw in the OCCASIONAL deep ball. Now its... deep ball, run, deep ball. I never thought Id wish to see our old conservative offense, but with Ricky back and now having Ronnie, it has worked in the past ( above 500 seasons) and it will work again.

In my opinion, I think that sort of offense might get us in trouble. Our o-line is just not good enough to consistently open up holes for the running back, so Linehan tries to use the pass to set up the run. Trouble is that he is using deep passes when he ought to be calling screens, short slants and quick outs. That's where we get in trouble.
Obviously I have little evidence to back this up. But I would expect that our backs' YPC is low in obvious running situations like first down, and higher in not so obvious ones like 2nd down or 3rd and long. Hence the mind-boggling decision to throw deep on 2 and 1, and 3rd and 1, in our last game. Does anyone have these stats?

I think they should bring in Sage to start because the N.O. Taints is a relatively "soft" opponent, specially on the 'D' side of the ball. This way we can kind of ween him into the rythm of the game and if he plays well we should start him again next week. This is the best time to give Sage a start to show us if he can lead us to victory.

Sage

I agree, the Saints would be a good team to test Sage against.
I'm not saying that he is that much better, we just haven't seen him be any worse...

the only reason we beat Denver is the Big Play. I will admit there was better flow to the drives. Gus knows already.
