I have heard a lot of people saying the Dolphins are in a rebuilding year, but I don't buy it, and my reasons for not are quite simple.

First off, you don't sign a 36 year old QB to start for your team if you are rebuidling. (Gus Frerotte)

Second, you don't sign THREE middle 30 aged defensive lineman and 2 safeties in their 30's if you are rebuilding. (Keith Traylor, Kevin Carter, Vonnie Holliday, Tebucky Jones, Lance Shulters)

It's these reasons where I just don;t think the Dolphins are trying to rebuild, but, its just my opinion.

The defensive guys are there just so Saban can run his defense. Those kinds of players weren't on the team already, and he couldn't get all the players he needed to run the defense from the draft alone. Frerotte is here just because he knows how to run the offense. He was either going to start or tutor Feeley as a 2nd-stringer.

Maybe not but it is extremely apparent that we need to rebuild. So now what happens, we beat KC next week and all is well, we will be in the thick of the AFC East race? Let's be real here. This team is a ways away and would surely break our hearts down the road.

Yes you do sign a 36 year old QB because you don't have anyone else that you have faith in to run the offense.

2nd the defensive players are there to fill holes until we groom younger players to take their place. Remember how many D-linemen and DB's we lost this offseason.

rebuilding does not mean you start all the rookies and young people you can find, rebuilding means you rebuild, you draft well, and develop and sign your own players, releasing or trading those that dont work in your system, there are what 25 new starters this year, 4 new rookies starting, and almost every vet signed was signed cheap and for 1 year, every important (see mcmichaels extension, ronnie, travis Ds and channings contracts) young guy bottled up for the next 3-5 years and all the vets on a 1-2 year term. Rome wasnt built in a day, nor was the NE dynasty. Great drafting and great coaching equals SB titles. We will go 7-9 to 9-7 depending on how we play down the stretch which is a huge block to grow on for next year

We're not rebulding.... We're retooling.Vets we brought in for experience. Saban, just like every coach are always looking to improve the team. Wanny wanted to play the best players. Saban I believe will play the best players for his "system" As stated by someone here recently.

you are looking at it very acutely like the play on the field is the only thing the players bring to the game.

If we are going to build through the draft Saban needs game tapes of his D executed by veterans to show the Rookies what he expects and he is also using the well established vets (except Frerotte) to teach the rookies the ropes, actually it's a very smart move.

frerotte (this statement has nothing to do todays loss) I have no idea why he brought him in unless linehan had something to do with it and Saban just took him on his word. Keep in mind it is a lot harder to overthrow moss than chambers.

Gus is 34. And all the free agents we signed other than Kevin Carter are on 1 or 2 year deals and are being used as stop gaps(except for Shulters, I thing we'll sign him to an extension) until Saban can get the guys he really wants for the long term.

He's implementing veterans that fit his system. That's where guys like Traylor/Carter/Holliday fit in.

As for Gus...Again, Rosenfels apparently isnt ready/good enough, and Feeley flat out sucks. We couldnt get a young guy in here worth a damn, so we went for the veteran.

The new engalnd patriots started at the top with Kraft, Kraft hired belichick, the team was then competive, and then brady emerged to win the patriots 3 superbowls. The dolphins live in the past. The ownership is more concered about making $, 10 times more than winning a superbowl. There only concern is to make the playoffs, and if they do its always an early exit. Just say to yourself. The Miami Dolphins, Super Bowl whatever Champions, it doesnt seem too familiar with me. and to think the patriots won 3 superbowls. I can only hope the dolphins pull it off in my lifetime.

Uh, right.

You do realize that Belichick won his first Super Bowl mostly on the back of a bunch of older FA's and veterans already on the team, right?

Sometimes I dont know about some of you people.

Lol... What are you suppose to do with the QB slot until we draft somebody next year? Bring in Keanu Reeves?

There's only so much a team can rebuild in the salary cap era. You go cutting veterans with big signing bonuses and guaranteed money and that actually PREVENTS you from rebuilding. You have to mix the building with the keeping.
