Frank Gore has had at least six more carries than Drake in three of Miami’s nine games, and the Dolphins have gone 1-2 in those games.
The disparity was never greater than Sunday against the Jets, when Gore rushed 20 times for 53 yards and Drake three times for nine yards.
Gase reached out to him earlier this season to explain his thinking after a game in which Drake received only a few carries.
“He came to me personally and that’s why I have respect for him,” Drake said. “He has that type of relationship with us, not just me personally, where he’s a very hands-on coach. A couple games, I didn’t get a lot of touches in general and that was frustrating. But the most frustrating part was not the touches but helping the team win and that’s the most important thing in my mind.
“Whether that’s getting touches or being a decoy or lining up out wide, as long as I am on the field to help the team win, that’s all that matters.”

Gore was always going to be no 1. Guru coach has never been sold on Drake. Drake not good on the 3 yard run on top of the offensive line which is crucial for play 2, the 1 yard bubble screen.

This is just another example of Gase outthinking himself.

Run the 35 year old Gore into the ground so that he is less effective where we need him like in short yardage, goal line, clock killing drives and keep one of your most explosive players on the bench until it’s too late.

I respect the heck Gore but he left so many yards on the field Sunday that Drake could have exploited.

Quite simply and in my opinion Gore and Drake are being used incorrectly and should have their respective roles reversed.

Blocking is a problem for Drake, and he is not nearly as powerful a runner as Gore. When Drake gets hit early, he just isn’t powerful enough to break those tackles. Gore does.

I don't think there's any way Drake would be able to stay healthy an entire year being the featured back, carrying 15-20 times a game. He wasn't able to start at Alabama playing behind Henry and here behind Ajayi and now Gore. A great change of pace guy is what he is and probably will be the rest of his career.

This is not a coaching issue, it’s an OL issue. The OL is preventing the use of Drake because it can’t open up any significant running lanes. Gore makes yards after contact, Drake not so much. Drake is also not a great blocker.

How sad is the state of affairs when your lead RB is ancient and its not because of injury to the #1 headed into the season but rather that the Coach thinks he is BETTER at this point than the Guy he was banking on.

How could this could happen to a Professional team?

I think Gase's thought process is to make as few mistakes as possible on O and hope the D can come up with some big plays. I hate this mentality (I don't hate Gase) and it has won us a few games against bad teams and lost us a few games against better teams. I think he is doing this because of the injuries and the fact that Osweiler sucks at any pass more than 10 yards down the field. We take a couple a shots a game and they are usually way off and then it is back to grinding, keeping it close, and hope the other team makes the mistake and we don't! Same thought process with Gore, he is not as much of a HR threat but he holds on to the ball, doesn't lose yardage, and is safe.

Guys Drake is better at this point but Gase is running a "try not to lose" offense right now. I know it sucks and it's like watching grass grow but the Dolphins once again dropped the ball on backup QB and he doesn't trust Brock Osweiler as far as he can throw him. A bad run for Frank Gore is like 1 or 2 yards while a bad run for Kenyan Drake is like -3 to -5 yards. Our offense can't recover from that right now because Osweiler sucks. Gore keeps us somewhat on schedule and in 3rd and manageable and as much as it sucks it's somewhat working as our 3rd down offense has greatly improved.

We will play "not to lose" offensively as long as the scoreboard allows it at least until Ryan comes back and depending on the confidence in his arm possibly longer. I hate watching it as much as everyone else and was grateful I had to stack firewood all day last Sunday, had a rare missed game and got to watch the Jets game with the FF button in play (took a little over an hour). However as much as I hate it I get it, we can't have Brock Osweiler blowing games before it even starts. brock is playing the same way as Gase is calling plays also, priority number 1 no big mistakes. Sadly, the NFL is so bad it will work against lots of teams as long as your defense is up the challenge. Not the good teams though, you have to come out of your comfort zone to have a chance there and we will likely have to do that this week. I doubt GB fumbles a 3rd straight game away.

I would disagree with this.

Drake is the one that can turn nothing into something. There were also a few plays where Gore got 3 yards but missed a cut or two that Drake might have ripped off huge gains.

And regarding blocking, if Gore was such a better blocker he would be the back on 3rd downs not Drake.

I think that's an old narrative, and I think he could do it.

People (especially running backs) get banged up all the time in this league, I don't think Drake is any more or less likely to get injured with a similar work load to the last 5 games last year.

Why is Gore starting...

Gore has been effective his entire career, including last year. He has also been effective when the line has been trash. Losing multiple starters on the o-line including your best blocking TE will have an impact. Gore is very good at finding a hole and getting up field for a few yards, drake is not. Drake is a very good players, but for the line we have, Gore is going to be more effective.
