Ok, maybe some of you didn't know who David Garrard was??? Ok, I get it, he is not good looking like Tannehilll and has a gap between his teeth.

But why, all of a sudden, so much hate for our starting QB (90% chance he will start)???

He looks impressive, extremely comfortable in the West Coast offense and he leads Miami Dolphins QB depth chart for a reason. The keyword is that he has been very consistent unlike our 1st Rnd pick CB...

Also, Peter King called Garrard one of the top-four quarterbacks he's seen on his travels so far, putting him ahead of more established signal callers including Peyton Manning.

The only poster who might judge a QB on how handsome he is would be JCane

because he's got too many girl tendencies to be a good QB! "fantabuoulous"

Well, for one, read WV post on him only caring about himself, that put me off on him a little bit. I'm weary of his back. I'm weary to see how he'll play since he's only ever been average or slightly above average IN HIS PRIME. Most of us are starting to think we'd be better off with Tannehill/Moore/Devlin

I never liked Garrard before Hard Knocks. That show or his looks has nothing to do with it.

The bottom line is the guy was an average at best QB who took way too many sacks, couldnt generate a lot of offense even with a stellar OL in Jacksonville, and a lot of his teammates up there felt like he went into shut down mode after his breakout season in 07 that resulted in a huge contract for him. That says a lot about a guys character.

To me, it just made no sense even bringing this guy in. When you combine his back issues with questionable character, he is not what you want leading the team. We already had a QB that the players on this team believed in and still does, the reigning team MVP in Matt Moore. We also drafted a kid in the first round to play QB. What is the point in adding Garrard? Did Philbin even bother to ask the players on the team how they felt about Matt Moore going forward?

Also, how soon people forgot about the type of attitude he had during negotiations last season. He seemed to feel entitled. Remember he made those negative remarks about the phins less than 12 months ago. Now all of the sudden he is a big supporter of the franchise? I dont buy it.

David Garrard is out for himself only. Not the kind of mix you need to bring in to the team, especially when we already had a capable vet at QB. I couldve seen the reach if we didnt have Moore and you wanted to add a vet to go with Tannehill, but Moore's presence made this Garrard signing worthless.

Really, the guy goes into shut down mode for 2 full seasons in Jacksonville, then wants to turn around and bash the franchise after they draft a QB in round 1 and cut him in favor of one of the McCowns. Where does he get off? If he had played like he cared about the team and winning in the first place, that likely never happens to him. The guy is just a bad apple.

we'll see what happens, I'm pulling for garrard to hold down the fort until tannehill is ready

He brought him in obviously because he does not share the faith that you claim the players have in Moore. He feels that Garrard is a good fit for the offense he wants to run. Why would he just blindly have faith in a qb that has never held a starting job for a full nfl season. i dont know of any coaches that take a job and then proceed ask the players who they want at qb and we have no clue who the players want at this very moment anyway.

Also I dont get your problem with his so called attitude last year, he didnt get the money he felt he should so he did not sign or the the report that all the speculation about what happened was all untrue and he really did not want to play last year at that point. I dont really care one lick about either Garrard or Moore both are stop gaps untill Tannehill is ready neither qb has much of a future as a starting qb in the nfl. The new staff is watching these guys play and right now they feel Garrard is the best choice, I dont get the big deal out of it.

I know why they brought him in, to give tannenhill competition, i dont think philbin or ireland had too much faith in moore beating tannenhill out. They want this kid to earn the position with as much competition as possible.

Your going to base your opinion on a player from what someone here says? Really?

The poster already had a dislike for Gerrard, so his opinion is skewed.

Judge the player from what he can do in our camp this year.

He's here for a reason, he's topping e depth chart for a reason too.

Moore isn't getting handed anything. You earn it every single year.

You personally have not even seen a down of football yet, particularly vs. live competition. How do you really know he's so comfortable in the WCO? Let the beat writers cast off their always sizzled opinions ...... doesn't mean very much, especially guys like Omar Kelly. As for Peter King ...... since when has he become a top personnel evaluator?

Wow...instead of throwing your opinion around like facts how about providing some statistics to support your claims and some links when you make claims about what his teammates felt or how Garrard is in it for himself.

It would make you a lot more credible and not just sound like a hater.

I want the best QB to start, and I'm sure the team would agree with that logic.

Really. You REALLY think you'd be better off with PAT DEVLIN than David Garrard? Please explain to me why. What about Pat Devlin as a quarterback makes you think this.

First - Ignore what WV said. Check my post below. WV is handing out flat out misinformation to further along this weird little agenda he has against David Garrard.
Second - When David Garrard was "in his prime" he had one season where he was phenomenal.
6:1 TD/INT ratio,
64% completion percentage.
215 yards per game average in the air.
That's not average or above average, that's pro bowl.

You ARE correct that in his other years, he was simply above average. However, he is consistently above 60% completion percentage, has never had a negative TD/INT rate as a starter (hell, has never been below 1.2/1 ratio) and as a rusher, when necessary, averages over 300 yards per season (4.2 yards per rush) with 3.5 touchdowns on average his last 3 seasons. For a one year stop gap, I'll take it.

His biggest (deservedly so) knock is his health. Other than that, you should be happy to have him as a stop gap.

His opinion is based on flat out misinformation that he simply refuses to correct. When confronted with this, he avoids it. When I broke down why I liked Garrard over Moore, he simply parroted the exact thing I said but the opposite in favor of Moore. When I asked him to break down for me, in simple outline structure, what makes one quarterback better than the other, he ignored it. It's pure noise, no poise. He doesn't seem to understand that just because you repeat something over and over doesn't make it fact, and just because you attempt to belittle folks with an arrogant attitude does not mean you won an argument.

Some facts -

-Garrard never bashed Jacksonville after the incredibly ****ty way they released him. A TON of Jacksonville fans were furious with how he was treated.
-WV says that Garrard had no fire for the NFL last season, as demonstrated by his not playing. Then he says that he's greedy because he wanted the contract guaranteed. Hum. That's a bit contradictory don't you think? First he has no fire, now he has such a fire that he's fighting over contract language that now makes him greedy. Interesting.
-Before he was released, MJD went on to say how much he believed in David Garrard, and how Garrard is the Jaguars main quarterback. Gabbert was a 1st round pick but he had to beat out Garrard which would be difficult. Boy that doesn't sound like a guy who hates Garrard. Guess that locker room cancer nonsense is a bit exaggerated eh?

David's our guy and he's always going to be our guy. I mean, since I've been there that's all I know and that's who I played with from the beginning. When I was a backup and he was the backup we played together, we have a bond. So I know David will fight through it. It's going to be tough at first. It's always tough when they draft at your position but David's a strong guy, strong minded. He'll be able to go out there, fight through it and we'll win games."

Okay WV, time to back up some of your claims and assertions. Let's see some links. Until then, stop spewing misinformation.
