Why the Hate for Garrard right after Hard Knocks???

Ok, maybe some of you didn't know who David Garrard was??? Ok, I get it, he is not good looking like Tannehilll and has a gap between his teeth.

But why, all of a sudden, so much hate for our starting QB (90% chance he will start)???

He looks impressive, extremely comfortable in the West Coast offense and he leads Miami Dolphins QB depth chart for a reason. The keyword is that he has been very consistent unlike our 1st Rnd pick CB...

Also, Peter King called Garrard one of the top-four quarterbacks he's seen on his travels so far, putting him ahead of more established signal callers including Peyton Manning.

I had the chance to work with DG back in the day when he was going to ECU, he is a soft spoken quiet dude. I wish him luck with whatever he does, except against the Jets of course. No reason to hate on the man.

I know why they brought him in, to give tannenhill competition, i dont think philbin or ireland had too much faith in moore beating tannenhill out. They want this kid to earn the position with as much competition as possible.

They didn't bring Garrard in to give Tannehill competition, they brought him in to give Matt Moore competition and this seems to be where some of the hate for Garrard comes from.

Garrard was signed five to six weeks BEFORE Tannehill was drafted.

I dont hate Garrard at all, and I hope he does well here, but I think by the end of the preseason he will reveal himself to be the same Garrard that was released by Jacksonville. The problem is though....people here seem to think he was a good QB in Jax because he went to a pro-bowl and had more TDs than INTs, but seem to overlook the wildly inconsistent play he had in the last few years in Jacksonville. And if the offseason reports are correct, he's been very inconsistent in OTAs, its just that Moore has been worse. I didnt think he was a great QB in Jacksonville, and I dont think he suddenly got better by taking a year off.

I think the statements about Garrard losing his teammates are exaggerated, but I will say he was not voted as one of the offensive team captains in Jacksonville - they elected Mercedes Lewis and Jones-Drew over Garrard. That says something to me.

The entire Jacksonville team was wildly inconsistent under Del Rio. They are/were more dysfunctional than Miami has been over the same time period.

This says something to me as well. I don't think it was a coincedence that one day after the team did not elect Garrard one of it's team captains, he was cut/released.

i was just listening to an interview on WQAM where the caller suggested this competition is some what of a ruse.

He believes the plan all along is to start Tannehill but instead of just handing the job to him there will be a competition that he wins in the preseason.
This will build his confidence having beaten out two experienced vets and also gain the respect of the other players prior to the first game.
Could this be the plan all along ?

No. I don't think Philbin and/or Sherman will start Tannehill until they are sure he can handle as many game time situations as he can without showing signs of hesitation. When Tannehill gets as much work with the starters on both offense and defense than Garrard and Moore and still look like he belong, then I may rethink my conclusion but not until then.

You also believe in Santa???

Yup, I was thinking the exact same thing myself. People have to remember that this is STILL HBO. They're gonna spice things up a bit just to get the viewership up and get a reaction from the fans. Worked like a charm if you ask me.

It's funny that most of the criticism towards the team from people hear are basic reality TV 101 rules. I ****ing HATE reality TV and even I know things will occur on the show that most likely wouldn't in real life.

Here are some of what people are up in arms about:

Dawn Aponte's attitude towards Tannehill
Philbin speaking with Chad Johnson about his press conference
Philbin notifying the QBs about the depth chart and acting sheepish (so I've heard)
Chad Johnson cussing in his press conference
David Garrard's "fantabulous"
Chad Johnson walking into the coaches meeting

Everyone is granted their own opinions on stuff and that's fine. But when it comes to reality shows, everything is edited to make things appear worse than they are. Did Les Brown have any positive plays in his first week of TC? We'll never know b/c HBO didn't choose to show them. Their angle is to have us be interested in whether or not this guy who came from nowhere can make the roster. That's supposed to be a hook.

Ya, a ruse .... that's it.

Because of the exact **** I warned everyone about. He didnt play last year because no team was foolish enough to over him at least a million guarenteed. Thats all he wanted. He didnt want an incentive contract. He wouldve had to earn that. He isnt looking to play or earn anything. He just wants a check based off one good season in 07, chill on his boat for the rest of his life and call it a day. He wanted to milk one or two more contracts off that less than mediocre career he put together. Guy was just looking for a check. Sign a contract, come in and play around for a few weeks, over exaggerate some bs injury before any real games start, have a surgery and call it a year. Thats it. Now he can get back to wake boarding off his boat.

****ING BUM!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like the hacks at ESPN have confirmed. At least we aren't the Broncos and can plug in something better than Caleb Hanie. I had not been invested in Garrard at all but was hoping that Tannehill or Moore had beat him out by this point. I have faith in Moore and still think it might be too early for TH as far as playing against opposing #1 schemes. Hopefully Moore stays true to his I am a gametime player mantra.

Well, its my 1st round draft pick QB that he took 1st unit snaps from for a little more than a week. Dont act like that dosent matter. Those extra snaps count. Garrard had no intentions of ever leading this team. But, he had to act like it for a while. You should be pissed that he took snaps in practice away from QBs who actually want to be here.

I don't care if the QB is the ugliest dude on earth, if he can play QB than he's beautiful in my eyes. My hate for Garrard started ever since Miami signed him. At his best Garrard has been barely above mediocre. That was when he led the Jags to a playoff win over the Steelers. Garrard can't lead any team in the NFL right now to anything close to the playoffs.
