To go for 2 up 30-19 with 8 minutes left in the game was just plain WRONG. Stupid, bad decision, etc.

Instead of just saying "yah guys I made the wrong call" he goes into some kind of mumble-jumble about the movie armageddon and drawing cards or something?? wtf??

I like Sparano's press conferences most of the time, but I really think he should have just said " I made the wrong decision, next question"

even fans sitting on their *** watching the game knew it was the wrong call... why is he STILL trying to defend it?

He did take full responsibility for the timeout against New Orleans so if he thinks he made a mistake he'll say so

The 2 point conversion chart also says to go for it there - so its not a big mistake or anything, buddy

And anybody who can do math knows it was stupid !!!!!

The "chart" does not factor in every possible factor in the football game... the "chart" has been criticized time and time again by some very intelligent analysts, announcers, even coaches...

You know it doesn't.. simply because it can't... There are so many factors that it can't look at...

If you honestly agree with this call then something is really wrong....

Agree with OP....but there may be a little more to it....maybe Sparano got bad info to go for the 2, maybe not....It's still on him of course but what's great about him is he'll never throw a member of his coaching staff under the bus.

This is opposite of Fatty Cryin Ryan.....Don't know if anyone saw this but when asked in his press conf. why he didn't challenge the possible fumble by us he said something to the effect that "I was thinking about it but I was told I shouldn't by my coaches in the booth"....HAHA....way to take responsibility there fatso.....you stay classy Rhino Rex.

I'm sure his staff appreciates being called out & dumped on like that....sure will be a happy, fun group going into a Bye week! The yearly implosion of the Jest organization has begun....REJOICE!!!

I am thinking he wanted to put it at a TD and 2 FG lead.

Tell me this, does the chart factor in each team's individual red zone percentage?

Oh wait it doesn't.... the "chart" didn't know that the Jets were scoring touchdowns all day on us instead of field goals......

That's just ONE of the factors that the "chart" does not factor in, and one of the reasons why it should not just be blindly trusted....

Does the chart factor in that Miami was having trouble on offense all day long and was only able to get in the endzone ONCE in 4 quarters??? What were our chances to get in on ONE PLAY lol?

This is why blindly trusting it is stupid.. you have to go by how the individual game is going.

No, I think it just has some numbers and a few = signs.

It was a terrible mistake. If the Jets didn't get called for that illegal shift on the completed 2pt Conversion, they would have kicked a FG on the final drive and probably sent the game to OT.

Any monkey can see that it was a terrible mistake.

It was a different perspective and therefore not wrong in TS's view only some others. I have zero problems with the call and I'm shocked this is an issue still, TS has always owned up to any mistakes, why question that now?

Personally I think it's flagrantly idiotic to show disrespect, rather than just disagreement, about this call.

1. It's obvious that there is no one set school of thought on this issue. You can find a bunch of different charts and they'll go one way or the other.

2. Therefore it comes down to a feel decision by a coach that knows more about football than any of you could ever hope to learn in three lifetimes.

I'm not here to tell you whether it was the right decision or the wrong decision. Personally, I would have kicked the extra point. Disagree with Sparano's decision all you want. But if you're going to turn that disagreement into chiding and disrespect then I sure as hell want to know what skins and trophies you've got up on the wall that gives you the right to question a judgment call which didn't break any NFL axioms, made by a guy that is a very well-respected NFL head coach.

Exactly right CK.

I would've kicked the extra point, too.

However, I respect the fact that he was evaluating the situation, the feel of the game, etc and he made a tough call. Agree or disagree, it was a judgment call.
Just like going for it on 4th down (or not), just like challenging a call with the red flag (or not), just like calling "trick" plays, setting the starting lineup, etc, etc, etc.

So, he went against conventional thought, and he went with a minority viewpoint.
Big deal. He'd be called a GENIUS if the Jets had gotten 3 possessions (TD, FG, FG).

Settle down you pansies.....I want my head coach to have the cajones to make "feel" calls in big-time situations. More times than not, it will work out........as it did here!
