Saints fan here checking in! I will go ahead and spot you guys alot of reasons why the Saints are overhyped and overrated. Every week the opposing fan base gives reason why my Saints aren't as good as advertised. The Saints haven't played anybody.

They beat an 0-17 Lions teams, a McNabb-less Eagles with a QB making his 1st ever NFL start, the Bills who are just terrible, and the Jets with a rookie QB. Now you guys can add that the Saints only beat an overrated Giants team that was only 5-0 because THEY TOO hadn't played anybody yet this year.

Drew Brees is overrated. He only compiles big stats because the Defense sucks and Drew is always playing form behind (despite the fact the Saints have yet to trail in a game this season)

The Saints Defense sucks. They haven't played against a QB/Offense/running game like "ours" yet this year.

Bush is a bust (actually I can't argue this), but just hope your defense doesn't overlook him.

None of the Saints runningbacks are even half as good as "our" backup backs.

Brees hasn't faced a pass rush like ours (giants?)

So there's the main excuses for the Saints success this year. There are lots more but those are the most common and comical. Will Fin fans live in denial til this Sunday and pretend the Saints really aren't all that?

With that being said... I do respect the Fins offense. I can definately see how it can be a nightmare for defenses. I have no idea what to expect from the Saints defense angainst your offense. I am not going to pretend to know what that battle's outcome will be. I will just be looking forward to watching it play out this sunday.

Now I do know your defense is in some trouble. I am actually pretty ignorant on the status of Miami's defense. I have no idea how good or bad your D is supposed to be, but I do now that Brees and Co have twice faced the #1 ranked defense and each time put up 48 points against said defenses. So if us Saints fans seem ****y about the Saints offense.... can you really blame us? At this point I don't care what defense we are facing, I am expecting 40+points. Weather conditions are more of a concern than the actual opposing defense.

Keys for Miami IMO.
- 3rd down conversions. I say 3rd downs because 3rd down conversions are key to long drives. The Giants messed up IMO by going for bombs on a few key 3rd downs that they failed to connect on and thereby ending what looked to be a promising drive developing. They went for the quick strike. Wrong thing to do. They should have just tried for 1st down. Their running game was doing well but they abandoned it a key times to opt for the big play/quick strike.

-Pass defense. I know that sounds lame and general, but if you want to contain Brees and company you need great TIGHT Pass coverage defense. Any soft zone crap, or blitzing that doesn't get imediate pressure up the middle, and Breesus and Co. will eat you alive. We have THE BEST pass blocking O-Line in the league hands down. Simply put... you need studs in the secondary. If you don't then you WILL NOT stop Breesus. Better hope for high winds and driving rain.

That's all I have for now.

We heard all about stats before playing the Jets too.

BEST DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE
9 PPG

Nobody knows what's going to happen when two teams play. You can't look at previous games and make comparisons.

I didn't believe the Jets D was as good as advertised. But I DO believe Brees and the Saints offense are as good as advertised and will probably have their way with our secondary. That doesn't have to win them the game though.

I think this was a good post, SF34.

I think the key is to being physical with your wide outs. The Giants were letting them off the LOS unchallenged. I think we will do that and try to disguise some blitzes.

Offensively, we aren't imaginative. We are practical. We give our two best players the ball most of the time. They account for most of our yards and TDs. Henne can throw (hes no Brees) and hopefully he'll make good decisions.

We really need to work on getting our Wildcat and offense down pat well enough to score TDS everytime we have the ball and make you guys kick a FG once. Then we win! :chuckle:

GeauxFinns?!?! Gah, you can't use "geaux" with a non Louisiana team. That's..... cheating or something. It's sacreligious! It just aint right! GIVE IT BACK! LoL.

GEAUX SAINTS!

Grew up in Lafayette...still a HUGE LSU fan. Could only moderately ever get into the Saints...though I am enjoying watching them do well. I just wish we were playing you guys in Miami in January. That would rock.

Thanks for the input ST. Fan 34. One thing is for sure, we have to contain Brees, but we will struggle when he is on the field, because our pass D has been pretty bad lately. Our best way to challenge Brees is with our running game. We have to keep him off the field (limiting his chances to put up big points on us). We have the best run offense in the league, and we are the best at TOP p/g too, so we have to rely on our run game to use up as much clock as possible and most importantly, score when we do so.

When our D is on the field, we have to figure out of way to limit Brees, and I'm not sure how we will do that because I know your o-line is very good at protecting him.

Our best bet is too study the Saints v. Jets game, to see how the Jets held your offense to 10 points and go from there.

Miami's defense MUST get some turnovers in this game, or we will lose.
There's no way we can outscore the saints just taking turns with possessions.

How are the Dolphins special teams? Specifically the return game. The most suspect area of the Saints has been their KO/punt coverage. ST is the reason the Gaints scored as many points as they did.

Good post. I think the key to the game for Miami is to keep Brees and your offense off the field, much like the Colts game. We need to run the ball effectively to eat away as much clock as possible. Hopefully our safeties don't suck too bad or the Saints will score quickly like the Colts did. Dolphins have the 4th ranked rush defense, so I think we can contain Thomas/Bell to focus a bit more on the passing game. It's going to be a tough game for us to pull off, but I'm hopeful.

Not good. Our blocking has been bad on returns. We lost our KR Pat Cobbs for the season, not that he was anything special anyways. I imagine Ted Ginn will take over at KR, and he certainly has the ability to break off long returns. But as I said, our blocking on returns isn't very good.

Not to worry, Madame Maloik, the voodoo priestess, has put the evil eye on the Saints for this weekend.

Perhaps it would be appropriate for the Saints to change their name to the Norlins Zombies!

With any decent pressure, Taylor, Porter, Wake et al are going to smack that crawdad right off of Drews cheekbone and he'll be floatin on the 'breeze' of semi-consciousness looking out his helmet earhole.

Dolphin 31, NO Zombies 21 (I hope) :)

Can I quote you on that? Oops, I just did! LOL

What's the weather supposed to be like Sunday?

This might be the most fair thread made by a different fan on this forum. Our weakness is our defense, which is weird cause in the last ten years it was our offense, and to make things worst it is in our pass rush and secondary. This will be the almost the same game as the colts if our offense makes no turnovers. If anyone on our defense can stop Drew just once we might have a chance.

The only glimmer of hope I saw watching the NYG game comes in the form of the NO run defense. Bradshaw and Jacobs averaged 4.7 and 4.8 YPC (forget which had which). The NO defense flies around and creates turnovers. They're good. But, I think the Giants panicked a bit and prematurely gave up on the run. Of course, if we go down 14-0, which we could well, we won't be in a position to play keep away.
