Well, at least we can all stop complaining about the offense this week. Ryan Tannehill was terrific (12-20, 162 yards, two touchdowns, 119 rating). Kenny Stills was dynamic (3 catches, 71 yards). And though starting right guard Jermon Bushrod allowed a sack, rookie starting left guard Laremy Tunsil was outstanding in pass protection.

The defense? We’ve been concerned about every aspect of this group for months (check our archives) and those worries were reinforced tonight, with Dallas piling up 300 yards and 27 points in the first half, scoring on five of their six possessions, then needing only two plays to march 59 yards for a touchdown to start the third quarter.

I see NOBODY on the DL other than Suh who should be an NFL starter. (Wake hasn't played...so, of course he isn't included in that statement...) This includes Mario...he looked like nothing special at all. He looked lethargic. Let's hope that is only because he is saving it for the real season...but I don't think so. I think that's it...that's all you get with this guy...

And the LB's...do we have any????

Positives
Ryan made some nice throws -- OL actually had good pass pro a few times -- Grant continues to look like a player.

Negatives
OL can't run block for crap against a weak DL (very bad news). Lots of missed catches. Our DL was beaten by the pokes OL. Mario looked neutered. Suh was doubled and neutered as well. LBs looked slow constantly chasing plays not making them. DBs were overmatched.

Overall
We got the crap beat out of us. Lost on both sides of LOS. It looks like its going to be a LONG season.

Dallas played hard and tough on both sides of the ball all night.
The defense was horrible.
This was only 1 game, but this team looks much like the teams of the past couple years.

The D was god awful last year - much much worse than the O.

I expect it to get even worse this year. D line isnt good enough (despite huge money spent) lb not up to scratch and corner group would be weak for a high school team

The offense is gonna have to carry the d this year by getting leads...being able to do that is gonna depend highly on what level oline play we get in both phases...that means guys like tunsil and bushrod tackles playing guard have to really pick things up in a hurry...i hope it also means qb sneaks on 3rd and a yard cause this teams gonna have trouble running it when the opposition knows its coming...oline looks more wide stretch fit than anything else...minus bushrod

The recipe right now doesnt seem like a fit for at seattle week 1 to state the obvious

Theres way too much hype about miamis des and dline period...and thats what it is hype...a ton of it

When was the last time we saw a great defense that didn't have at least one great LB?
Pitt-Lambert and Ham
Ravens- Lewis
Giants- Taylor, banks and Carson
Bears- marshall and singletary
Even our no name defense had Nick B

Our LBs can't tackle. Did Misi make a tackle lazt night? Kiko is off to a bad start and Jenkins is an average player starting for a bad defense. Our defense was bad last year and yet we drafted Xavier and that's it. We drafted no LBs and the FO is hanging it's hat on a MLB that hasn't have a good season in 3 years. Once again it's looking like Suh and Jones and not much else. Normally a LB iz the soul of your defense so tell me, who's the soul of our defense? Yup, we don't have any and haven't since Zach Thomas left.

Ozzy rules

Ozzy rules!!

I'd sign Tulloch tomorrow.

Funny, the same thought crossed my mind, but not sure if that would really be the answer.

We had a chance to draft a LB 2 drafts ago and some people were pounding the table for it even after we got Parker but nope.

I swear the Pats could just TE to death and if Lewis and Edelman are back how can we even match up?

I'm going to temper my disappointment as far as the defense goes, because it is preseason, guys like wake, suh, and mario aren't going to go all out during preseason, and vanilla gameplanning mostly negates whatever we can really judge as far as first team Defense goes. Of course I would've liked to have seen more positive plays from individuals but meh. preseason. Now, for the guys who should've been trying, they looked like they had dead legs. Like training camp was too hard for them and that they don't want it. That was my impression of the second and third stringers on both sides of the ball.

We still have LB issues and the secondary lost it's best CB from last year so yeah, it's gonna be worse than last year's edition not sure why people were running around thinking this defense was going to be domiNANT when they couldn't domiNATE a backup team at this point.

Maybe. The two main problems with the defense were missed assignments and speed to make up for those mistakes. The defensive scheme is new this year. The ends have to run through the lineman instead of staying wide. Number 50 was way out of position on one touchdown because of technique. They called it a missed tackle, but he had to dive to have any chance. That is a correctible mistake.

Way too early for your statement, but I am concerned about the talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Easy fellas. Yes it was a smoldering dumpster fire on defense, special teams, and the second team offense. This is preseason folks, there is no scheming involved, no real game plan. They are trying to see who will make the final roster, period. The only concerns I saw were fundamentals. Tackling. The lack of basic tackling skills has been absent for the last 5 years. Dallas' Oline pushed us around, true. abut when we had shots at open field tackles the Fins were whiffing left and right. I was actually encouraged by our first team offense, but again, they had no attack plan on defense either- grain of salt.
