Why trade for Rosen

If you’re going to go weaken your offensive line even more?

So you are of the belief that the OL can never be improved from this point onward? That the current state of our OL will be bad in perpetuity so therefore we should never try and collect/sign valuable pieces at other positions? With this logic we should simply never try to get better at any position since you seemingly think that the OL we have now will be the same one we have for 10 years.

Because if they hadn't traded for Rosen they would have taken an O-lineman and that just doesn't make sense. Weak O-line is the shortest distance to the #1 overall pick.

I see a lot of people expressing this sentiment. First, they didn't give up much for him so I'm not sure why many are acting like he is a major investment. Second, it's not like they could've predicted this offer would be made. But mostly, Rosen isn't on this team for just one year. Barring a trade he will be here next and the year after, and if we don't pick a bunch of busts he can reap the benefits of this trade by being on a better overall team.

A number of young qbs start their careers with poor olines. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but most teams that are in a position to draft a qb in the top 10 of the draft likely have protection issues.

Why did they trade for Rosen? Because this FO/Coach are all about finding value.

Rosen was a good risk because the Cardinals investment in Kyler Murray made it so that they'd be willing to let him go for less. The whole idea of trying to work out a deal for Clowney was the same. Getting a good player or one with upside for cheaper than it would usually cost. By taking advantage of the situations both those teams found themselves in.

If the Dolphins end up in a position to select another top QB in the next draft, it doesn't make the Rosen trade worthless. In fact it gives them a higher probability of having a QB on the roster that develops into a good or great one.

An interesting question, unless they believe Rosen is the answer.

Because he delivered on the first overall pick in 2018...

It's not as if they knew another desperate team was going to contact them with a tremendous value trade offer a few months later. I think that's what you're forgetting about here. We did not call the Texans offering Tunsil. The Texans called US and the team held them over a barrel to get a haul for him.
