It seems to be a foregone conclusion that we will trade Ricky Williams at the end of this season. Many people are basing that assumption on the pain and humiliation he caused the Dolphins last year when he abruptly retired, leaving the team in the lurches.

Nick Saban was not here to witness the mass confusion and hysteria we all suffered through last year. He is giving Ricky a clean slate and is narrowly focused on his immense talent. Thank God. Saban has proven to all of us (especially me) that he knows what he's doing and going after Ricky was a very smart thing to do. If it had been up to me, Ricky would have been shot at dawn by a firing squad led by Seth McKinney. That's how much I know.

One thing about Ricky is that he has never been a locker room distraction, because he is so shy and introverted. He has also been a model player throughout his career, always working hard, never complaining, and performing at a high level every Sunday. Let's face it, outside of his total weirdness off the field and desire to light up a fat one now and then, Ricky is a model football player. He is as talented and hard-working as they come in this league.

The tandem of Ricky and Ronnie is as exciting as any we have ever had here since the perfect season when Csonka, Morris, and Kick dominated the NFL.
The possibilities are endless and they could easily develop into the best backfield in the NFL. If that happens, why change? Why should Saban deal Ricky, especially if the draft pick offered is not a high pick?

I never thought Ricky would return to the NFL, much less the Dolphins, much less this year. There is a lot to be proven yet, but I also think the possibility of Ricky staying beyond this year is real and we should be open to that.

Why not we have Ronnie for the future and Ricky only has a year or two of good production

Ricky may NOT get traded, but if he does, it won't be because of "the pain and humiliation he caused the Dolphins last year." It will be because we can get some real value for the long-term future ... say six or seven years rather than one or two. Salary could be an issue as well.

I agree, the only good reason to trade RW would be salary demands

If we could trade him TODAY, I would. I still don't like having him on the team. I only hope he does well so we CAN trade him. As for me, his apology is NOT accepted and he will ALWAYS be a quitter. Just because he has talent does not make him a team player! I am really looking forward to seeing Ronnie Brown run all over the field and FORGET RW.

Your opinion has been duly noted and discarded. :chuckle:

Why trade him? Because he won't be playing for the vet minimum next year, and we're already going to be paying Ronnie big $. We can't concentrate the majority of our cap space to the RB position. We will probably need to find a QB nex year, and Ricky may be incentive to get someone, either as a trade for a QB or either packaged with a pick to move up to select a QB. I don't think Saban is going to trade him because he "hurt the Dolphins", he'll trade him because it's a move that makes sense in a business perspective.
