WHY use up our timeouts???

You're not "gambling on a coin flip" with the new OT rules. Calling those timeouts made it easier for Carolina to score a TD. I don't think there's any question about that.
Of course you're gambling on a coin flip, even with the new rules. If Carolina wins the toss and scores a TD, game over.

You can argue the other side...maybe we hold them to a FG and then have a minute plus to get a FG the other way.
I just think we called them too early. You want to call one after 2nd down? Fine. But we were pulling those out on early downs and I think that hurt us.

If we don't call them there, Carolina runs at the end zone 2 times, taking 1: 20 + the time it took to run the plays off the clock trying to win. And if they don't win, they kick a chip shot FG on 4th to tie. They were going to run anyway. Even though we were under two minutes, they had plenty of time because they had the ball and I'm pretty sure they were already inside the 10 when we called our last two timeouts.

Better to have no time outs but enough time on the clock to get a shot at a win, than to have 3 timeouts and not enough time to get down field.

So you want to let Carolina tie the game and not have enough time on the clock for us to get in FG position for a win? You'd rather gamble on a coin flip?
Absolutely. it looked like they were gona play for a field goal and maybe take one shot at the end zone. i dont think they had no timeouts if im not mistaken.

Why would they play for a FG with just under two minutes on the clock? That makes no sense at all.

Our first time out stopped the clock with 1:45 left. Why wouldn't Carolina take a couple of shots at the end zone?

Enough blame for everyone.

1. Bad non-call in the end zone in cost Miami 4 points.
2. Really hated the concede 25 yards and a field goal at the end of the first half.
3. Sacks and penalties kill Miami's drives every time.
4. Couldn't get stop on 4th and 10.
5. Tough personal foul call on Cam Newton run. Looked like an NBA flop, Newton got up grinning as if to say "I can't believe they fell for that."
6. Bad use of timeouts IMO made the difference between a touchdown and field goal.

Horrible use of time outs. Everyone watching the game with me knew better. We were all yelling wtf. Let them play for the field goal.

The people who don't understand why using the timeouts was correct are starting to sound very much like the people who were telling us before the season that o-linemen don't really matter all that much.

Yeah t wasn't just the timeouts. You could feel the momentum completely change when we went into a prevent defense giving Carolina a long FG with one second left in the first half, to make it 16-6. They then got the ball to open the second half and marched it right down the field for a TD. Miami rolled over and said NO MAS. I would rather get my ass kicked 35-0, than lose these type of games. We had the last playoff spot in our control and we crap the bed. :rolleyes2:

im talkin about the last two to's mostly. with like 50 seconds left but we knew what the coaches were thinkin from the first one. they should of abandoned the idea. but like someone else said they still messed up takin to much time to call them.

Panthers were 4th and 10 on their own 30 and our D had been running hard the previous couple of plays. We had all 3 time outs. All this talk about how poorly time outs were used later in the drive. That was the time we needed a time out and I was screaming at the TV on 3rd and 10 and then again on 4th and 10 for our D to take a TO. Next thing you know, they hit a pass on 45h and 10 to Steve Smith for a first. Everything went smoothly for the Panthers from that point on.

Because we have an idiot Coach that had the game won and could not figure it out.

When they got the first down on the 3&2 play, I would have let them score to have some time left and a TO.

Let's look at how this plays out if we don't call those timeouts.

We called our first timeout with 1:45 on the clock. Let's say we don't call it.
Carolina lets the clock run down to around 1:10 then runs the ball. They'll either score a TD or they won't.
We again don't call a timeout.
Next play, they run the clock down to about 0:25. They'll either score a TD or they won't.
If they don't score, I'm assuming you'll want to call a timeout at this point with the clock somewhere around 15 seconds.
Now they kick the FG and we get the ball back with 2 timeouts and around 10 seconds left on the clock.
Not much upside to that scenario since we don't really have a shot of winning in regulation now.

But the very evident downside is that we gave them 2 shots at the end zone and allowed them to eat the clock, leaving us with no time, just as Carolina would want to do.

Then we go into overtime with the momentum all going Carolina's way. Brilliant.

THEY HAD 1:45 LEFT ON THE CLOCK. They didn't need to spike the ball.

The first TO was called with them on the 30 with 1:45 left, after that they had 3 plays that stayed in bounds which even with the timeouts took a minute off the clock. At the very least we made it easier for them.
