There was a marked difference between the first & second half performance this week. As quoted in the Sun-Sentinel:

QUESTION: What was the biggest difference between the first and second halves?
SABAN: "We just kind of decided how we were going to play their personnel groups and told the guys exactly what we were going to do at halftime, and went out and did it. We just did a really good job of it."

Please excuse my football ignorance, but could someone please explain to me why the heck it has to wait until half time to make changes? Why can't the coaches pull the offense / defense to one side, rip their butts about penalties and make certain other changes on the fly? It's not like they don't have time to do it because the other team (Buffalo) would have the ball for 5 or 6 minutes, that on top of a TV or a Team time out should be plenty of time to at least have some kind of meeting. I didn't see anyone getting ripped for mistakes on Sunday or any coach with film / white board trying to make changes. What's the deal here, why does it take a locker room 10 minute break to get things moving differently?

Well the first 3 drives they got there points. Your not going to change your plan after 1 drive they have. So you let that one go and then the next drive they settled for a field goal because the D stepped up big at the goal line so it looked like an improvement. So you let another 1 go and then after the 3rd drive we just shut them out. So I guess the question should be when do you decide to change your gameplan. After they have 1 or 2 good drives or even 3. He just used halftime this week I'm sure if he sees us in big trouble before halftime he will work something out.

There's more time at the half to discuss changes and impliment them. Other than before and after the game it's the only time you have all the players together where they can listen to the coaches.

It's also the only time where coaches can have a meaningful pow-wow. The HC is always engaged while the ball is in play. Furthermore, you get a chance to exhale, talk things through for a minute and not make a panic adjustment. Generally, coaches develop plans and contingency plans. When you see something that isn't working, you go to your contingencies. If those don't work, you adjust as much as possible during play, then make big adjustments at half time.

You really cant have a meeting, because Saban is always calling plays and coaching the players, thats why he writes down notes, he is formulating a plan for the second half.

amen to that we have always been playing much better in the second half and we have been in every game and we have chances to win

Saban is not going to turn 5 years of lame drafting on 1 offseason

The only thing that comes to mind regarding a halftime adjustment, is the fact that halftime is the only time you truly have time to talk to your players as a team....There isn't that much time between the 1st and 2nd qrtr break to make any corrections....
