He has a second gear that few possess, plus power and the willingness to use it. Decent pass blocker, football smart and soft hands, when healthy he dominated games even though Hamilton had the worst offensive line in the league......... but............. after 2 tries in the NFL, (i think washigton), he couldn't even make the practice squad. Goes to show that dominating in the CFL does not automatically demonstrate the ability to succede at the next level. But hey, anything is possible.

Nonsense.....Bill Parcells signed him to a contract...

Wouldn't surprise me if they had Wake's HOF bust completed before the ink was even dry....

If 23 sacks in the cfl is so awesome why didnt the guys ahead of him ever come to the NFL.

James Parker grover Covington and Joe Montford

If you want to talk about dominating the league no player had as dominant receiving season as Derrel Mitchell with 160 receptions which is about 40 ahead of the next best season. In 1999 he tried out with the NFL and did not make it.

Wake could be a major exception but people here act like CFL players make it big all the time in the NFL and thats far from true.

I didn't see domination there, I saw good highlights, but it wasn't like he ran over people... show me someone who ran over ppl like a Czonka, then I'll listen, but this guy was just a good runner with what looked like a good OL for him.

Here's a serious question for a moment though. Has any DE in the CFL ever matched Wake's production over a two-year period?

Funny I just made that same point in the JT to wake thread... THat's why I think Wade has a chance here.. That many sacks over a 2 year period is unheard of in any league..

The thing is, it's not one thing or another thing...it's a bunch of things. It's not just the production. It's the athleticism behind the production. Some of the players you're showing here on YouTube or talking about historically, were just savvy players that did not have real NFL caliber athleticism. The savvy and know-how can only get them so far when they try and make it in the NFL...but it gets them a lot further in the inferior CFL. So it's the production, it's the athleticism behind it, it's the maturity factor from his having banged around semi-pro leagues, it's the work ethic that gave him the body of a greek god while maintaining that tremendous explosion and athleticism...it's everything.

Wake doesn't just have NFL caliber athleticism, he has elite NFL caliber athleticism. If you stuck those tangibles and that production on a team like...let's say, Montana...he would be drafted on the first day, even if you also supposed that he starts off 27 years old.

good luck in finding that info out. I have tried. Anyplace to get season by season cfl stats?

OK Montford in 1999 and 2000 had 46 total sacks/

So yea Joe Montford with 46 in two years is probably the most dominating although to look at other years is hard.

Kind of goes without saying but he has a remarkable attitude and dedication also. He got chumped coming out of psu with his lazy big expectations but overcame and fought like a madman. I admire him.

That's a great comparison.

I think the difference between the two cases would be that Cameron Wake in all likelihood has athleticism that Joe Montford did not.

That's a big part of draft evaluation. Some guys are just as productive as one another in college, but the guy with the athleticism has a much better chance of translating.

Well actually in his pro workout he seemed to show elite altheticism for his size and yet somehow did not get drafted. So go figure.

It looks like Montford was never even given a chance by the NFL. Where did you find that he had top level athleticism?
