Sorry if this was touched on before....but never heard the real reason? Released a few games into the season and then signed with Pats back when Saban was in his first year or whatever. Not even traded, just released? Anyone know why?

Because we needed a blocking FB for Ronnie...

Evans is more of a running/catching FB, and a marginal lead blocker at best...

We have Ronnie to do the running/catching. We need people to block for him...

I wondered if there was a falling out between Evans and Nick Saban....I you have the minicamps and pre-season to evaluate him, he made the final roster....then just flat out released. I don't recall that he was playing unusually poorly?
It seemed to be ignored by the media?

I heard the same thing about the blocking but he appears to be blocking fine for the Pats plus I beleive we brought him in for special teams too which he is pretty good at. It may be we already had another similiar back in Sammy Morris whom by the way was the Pats leading rusher earlier in this year before going on IR. Of course talking about blocking was not the full back we had from Dallas duing the Nick Saban era good in the blocking department but were we not attempting to replace him all the time because of his inability to catch the ball?

i guess you didn't see him blow open holes in every game he has played at fullback for the patriots

i though he was a pretty good blocker. we have definitely sucked in the past evaluating talent. maui is gonna be a force though. once he gets that 270 lbs up to game speed - watch out! he will be here a while and do just fine.

That was my suspicion was well, but as you said we never heard any more about it.

Really strikes me that with the Pats in our division, it's like trading baseball cards when you're five years old with a teenager. "Oh, you don't want that card. I guess I could give you something for it..." Evil laugh follows... We've been snaked so many times this decade, screwing up our drafts is only half of the sad story.

Why else do you think the Patsies gave us a second for welker..., they don't believe it will ever bite them in the ***..., guess again... team "humble" my ***...

Neither has anyone else, for that matter. Laurence Maroney averaged a not particularly amazing 3.9 YPC out of the I-formation.

he just wasn't that good fo us. He was not blocking well, he had stone hands (one of the reasons we brought him in was to be a reciever out of the backfield), and he could not get short yardage when called upon..

He's not even used that much by the Pats so when he is used no one pays much attention to him. He also really isn't opening holes for Maroney, that's more or less the 3 pro bowl offensive linemen on the pats as well as one of the better blocking TEs in Kyle Brady

Honestly though, when some people say "we should never have let so and so go", I really don't think they look back and see that said person was not really good for us.

stonehands? I personally would have had half as many drops as Mauia did last year if I were the fullback.

Why did we stash K Eckel for a year only to have him go back to the Pats? Seems like we've been a Pats farm team for way too long!.
