If your wondering why we're not 4-1, look no further than the aspect of the team that was SUPPOSED to be MOST improved.

Special Teams. From the kicker to the returner to the coverage and the blocking. I give this team a solid F.

Granted comming in to the season WE ALL KNEW (that is, people that actually follow the dolphins and not just pop in from time to time to see if we've been winning or not) that our secondary was the biggest hole on our team. Thats saying alot considering how weak we are at WR. Nothing in the defensive backfield was addressed via FA or the draft, unless you think Crocker was brought in for anything other than depth and special teams play.

What i'm getting at is that poor special teams play cost us the Jets game, and poor special teams play just cost us the houston game.

I'm not putting the blame completely on the secondary, because i expected them to suck and suck very hard.

I'm ecstatic with how our offense has been considering what we have.

If anyone thinks that going to the playoffs and losing a wildcard game is what this organization needs then your dead wrong. Your a selfish fan if you think that way.

We'd miss out on getting higher picks, and this organization has made it as clear as you could possibly want that they are not building through free agency. ONLY THROUGH THE DRAFT.

If we win 6 or 7 games this year then i'm ecstatic because that means we've changed the mentality of this team. Considering how many picks we have in next years draft gives me even more hope that we'll be a playoff team next year.

You people (of course not everyone, but you know who you are) need to wake the hell up and realize that what happened this past offseason was the best draft we've had since JIMMY JOHNSON was here. Wanny, Saban, Cameron, they all took turns driving this team farther into the ground. I think between the 3 of them over the course of 7 years we have maybe a FEW players that have stayed around and actually contributed.

Even as heartbreaking as the loss was yesterday everyone needs to understand that everything in this organization is going the right way. We have turned around, and things are only going to get better.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

high draft picks dont guarentee success. what they do guarentee is spending a ton of money on a player who has not proven himself yet. if we can get into the playoffs as a wildcard, i would sign up for that in a second. we havent been to the playoffs since the 2001 season, 2002 playoffs. i would love for this team to get back there anyway. dosent make people selfish if they would rather get into the playoffs and get a good draft pick.

sorry but you lost all credibility with that statement and i think your not a true fan if you hope we ever lose games just to get picks I WILL NEVER DO THAT WONT HAPPEN

This is the most ludacris post I've ever read here. So I'm not a true fan because I want our team to win NOW? haha.

I agree, our offense scored 28 our Defense gave up 22. We lose the game because of hidden points given up.

He has valid points. It's easy to call it "ludicrous" but the fact of the matter is special teams have been a major factor in two of our losses. No, it's not the only reason we lost them, the offensive and defensive squads both had other opportunities they squandered but special teams play is one of those things you only remember when something spectacular happens. And that's either really good or really bad for you. For the most part it should be something you "fire and forget", meaning it's impact on the actual outcome on the game should be minimal. We have improvements to make in every phase of the game, but there is progress and I take the original post in this thread to mean that special teams is the area that we've seen the least progress. That's not necessarily a bad thing, since, if you had to prioritize, it should come in after Defense and Offense.
I would say my biggest concern is the way the defense has played on the road in a couple of games. I know they looked great in New England, but Arizona and Houston were scary. The overall trend is progress though, and that's what counts.

You were doing good except for that statement. I trust our FO to make GOOD picks. Too many high draft picks turn out no better then the guy picked in the 3rd or 4th round. If this team loses in a wildcard game I would be exremely happy we made it that far. You can have all the high picks you want, but if you don't have the staff that brings out the best in you, you will watch the SB on tv. I expected our secondary to suck badly, so I am surprised that we were able to shut down NE's and SD's passing game. No big changes were made from last year in the secondary, but I guarantee you that with last years coaching (or lack of), we would have lost those 2 games.

I'm just looking at the future. I'm looking at what the chances of our "contenderhood" is within the next 1 or two years. We all understand that we're not going to the big game this year. Most of us understand that the playoffs are unlikely, especially with the outcome of the Houston game. So why the hell not just keep doing what we've been doing, and that is CLEANING HOUSE and putting ourselves in the best position for FUTURE success rather than becomming a hub for cancers like Ocho Cinco and Adam Jones. If we go with the "win now" mentality, we would blow our chances of sniffing the super bowl within the next 5 years.

This is the most ludacris post I've ever read here. So I'm not a true fan because I want our team to win NOW? haha.

Your probably a bleeding heart miami dolphins fan and i give you props for that. It doesnt mean you know jack when it comes to the future success of a football franchise. Rome wasnt built in a day, and neither are Bill Parcells' Dolphins.

Look at whats going on in NY. Their all but retarded media is hurting them more than they will ever know. All the pressure on Mangini to WIN NOW is very familiar for me considering i remember when DON SHULA did the same freakin thing and sent our team back into the stone age for years to come with his "one mighty heave" of free agency maneuvers.

sorry but you lost all credibility with that statement and i think your not a true fan if you hope we ever lose games just to get picks I WILL NEVER DO THAT WONT HAPPEN

I hope for the dolphins to get to the superbowl as soon as possible. Believe it or not genius, ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN THIS SEASON.

Your absolutely right. I'm actually very much against paying unproven rookies more than proven veterans based upon speculated potential and hopefully that will be addressed by the NFL in years to come. However, given the current circumstances, the way that 32 teams do business when it comes to draft picks is still the same. TRADING DOWN is the way to go and thats why our defense was so freakin amazing during the JJ era. I dont care about picking 10th overall. I care about trading down from 10th overall to 20th overrall and getting players and picks in the process. thats how you build a successful franchise. Thats why i miss Jimmy Johnson so much. Thats why i'm so glad we have BP and Ireland doing the business instead of Spielman and Mueller.

OK you guys need to understand that what i'm trying to essentially convey is that it would take a series of crazy events, and i mean VERY VERY CRAZY for this team to even have a shot at the playoffs.

Not trying to be a negative, but if some of you guys are as informed as you think you are, then you would be rather aware of the situation in our division.

Buffalo 4-1

New England 3-2

New York 3-2

Miami 2-3

Now put things in perspective. Teams that make it into the playoffs are teams that are atleast 2nd, and in very rare instances maybe 3rd in their division. THATS ONLY IF THE REST OF THE CONFERENCE SUCKS A**.

Now what about potential contenders outside of our division? Lets see if our conference comparitively sucks A**.

Tennessee 5-0

Denver 4-2

Indianapolis 3-2

Jacksonville 3-3

San Diego 3-3

Starting to get the picture yet?

As far as playoff spots go, this is what we're looking at.

4 Wildcard teams + 2 divisional teams = only 6 spots to go around out of a conference of 16 teams.

I see 8 teams that are in better position than we are. 3 of those teams would havta fall off the face of the planet for us to make it, and thats only if we continue to have the extreme amount of success that we've been having GIVEN OUR CIRCUMSTANCES.

So realistically speaking, we're pretty close to the bottom of the barrel and this is with our team being at full strength. Meaning we dont have injuries.

If your wondering why we're not 4-1, ...

2 plays separate us from a 4-1 record: The flukey 4th down pass by Favre in the Jet game that was a TD & our inability to make a 4th down stop on 4th & 10 vs Houston. Bell clearly was in position but I think he went for the pick as opposed to the knockdown.

Another play seperates us from a 1-4 record.

You're referring to the SD game? The overthrow from Rivers to the SD WR or the 4th down stop of LT on the goal line? They may have tied the game on either play but Miami was clearly controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides.

controlling the line of scrimmage does not guarantee wins. We could just as easily have lost that game as we could have won this game or the jets game. We cannot have it both ways and pick and choose we are 2-3 .

Horrible post, I can agree with the 1st part about special teams, but basically saying to you want the team to lose to get higher draft picks??? Also Parcells and Co. are not building the team "ONLY through the draft" if that was the case they wouldn't have gone out and got a starting Guard(Smiley) and tried hard to get a starting OLB(Pace). Hey did you ever think that if this team made it to the playoffs that would mean the players are progressing nicely and could keep that up going into next season? Or no should we wish for these guys to suck so we can draft higher in the offseason?
