I had to hold back a while before posting this. Let me say that right now local media, talk shows, and fans up here in the ATL are literally laughing at the franchise and Wayne H. for even considering Gailey and Mora. Not that we should necessarily care what non Fin fans think about the team but on this one they are right and the Dolphins organization is wrong. Let me tell you a point of view here.

I have stated on several other posts about thoughts on Mora. If we want undiscplined football, immaturity from the HC, lockeroom chaos, and teams who underachieved despite having talent then Mora is the man. Mora and McKay procured some good talent and could not do anything beyond '04. The Falclown Vickies were a fluke in '04 when they got to the NFC champ game. The last two years Mora and his buddy Greg Knapp ******ed Vick's progress with stupid gameplanning. Knapp makes Mularkey look like a genius especially with red zone play calling.

Gailey reeks with mediocrity. He was a mediocre coach at Dallas with 10-6 and 8-8 records both years. Yeah the Cowgirls made the playoffs but with the talent they still had left from JJ / Switzer era they underachieved. At GT he was 37-27 with a bad bowl record and a team that imploded at the end of the year. In college he can recruit but not take advantage of the talent he brings in despite tough academic standards at the institution. Reggie Ball was a promising talent who never developed into what he should have been. In key games the past two years Calvin Johnson did not get the ball to make a difference. Bottom line Gaileys' college teams fall short and never realize their potential. The same as it was in his limited experience in the NFL.

Between the two if we had the pick IMHO Gailey would be the least of the two evils. But havind said that Wayne needs to get his head on straight and pull away from these guys. There HAS JUST GOT TO BE SOMEBODY OUT THERE BETTER THAN THESE TWO!!!

Agreed x2. Hold off an extra day or 2. Maybe Marty will become available.

I am both a Dolphins fan and a Georgia Tech fan.

I have to say I agree totally with everything you said.

Excellent post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who?

Great post and overall agreed. If I had to choose between the two id take Mora. But my first choice at this point would be Marty or Cam (either or) so we can finally start to have an offense

Sorry, I agree and disagree with some of your post. Vick 04 was a fluke, because he was new, and DC did not know his tendencies and abilities. They do now. Contain him, outside pressure LB in the middle and make him throw. Oh wait, he can't. Stunted his growth? Hmm, he's a RB and he set a record for most rushing yards by a QB. So Mora went with Vick's only talent. BEcause some teams can take away his running and he can't throw, the Flacons lost. That's on Vick, and the idiots for giving him $100 million dollar contract. Vick is the one who said he can make all the throws, yet failed to over the span of two games. Mora had nothing to do with exposing Vick's obvious flaws, that he can't throw.

I do feel slighted with out coaching search tho. I wanted Brian or Cam. Not sure why Brian pulled out and where Cam is right now, but I'd prefer Wayne let his people handle it. Fora very hands off owner, he sure can smother a good HC search.

Gailey reeks with mediocrity. He was a mediocre coach at Dallas with 10-6 and 8-8 records both years. Yeah the Cowgirls made the playoffs but with the talent they still had left from JJ / Switzer era they underachieved.

Other way around. The team was underachieving before Gailey was hired. He took a 6-10 team and turned it into a 10-6 team. He went 8-8 his second year due to excessive injuries. He restored Aikman, Irvin, and Smith as a powerhouse trio on offense, which is ironic considering it was Aikman who convinced Jerry Jones to fire Gailey.

So, with the same basic roster, the coach preceding Gailey went 6-10. Gailey went 10-6, then 8-8, making the playoffs both years. Then he was fired. His successor went 5-11 for three seasons. Then Gailey game to Miami, where he took an offense "headlined" by Jay Fiedler and Lamar Smith, head coached by Dave Wannstedt, and ranked 16th in the league in points scored in 2000, 8th in 2001. He coordinated the last Miami offense that made it to the playoffs. He jumped ship to Georgia Tech afterwards because Cap'n Wannstedt was heading for an iceberg.

Gailey is not an underachiever. He is an overachiever, particularly with that horrific Miami offensive roster in 2000-01. He's proven that he can get the best from a mediocre roster, and if everyone here is right about our current offense being mediocre at best, then Chan Gailey is just what we need to turn things around.

There are better candidates out there, but none of them want the job.

Please name these candidates. Bill Cowher? He doesn't want to coach at all this year: he's burnt out. Marty Schottenheimer? He hasn't even been fired yet, and do we really need a guy who wins in the regular season and chokes in the playoffs? Denny Green? He's not who we thought he was. Brian Schottenheimer? The rationale being used to promote him--"ignore the Jets' offensive ranking, look at what they actually did on the field"--is the same logic that can be applied to Chan Gailey, plus Gailey actually has experience running an entire coaching operation. Pete Carroll? I admit I wanted Pete Carroll, but he's out of the running.

Cameron, Grimm, Mike Singletary, Ron Rivera and Rex Ryan to name five off the top of my head. Others to absoutely stay away no matter what Fassell, Green, and Tice. I acutally heard a rumor that Tice name was murmurred under the radar. Now just a rumor but could you imagine Tice! As far as Schottenheimer he would be the least of all of the evils among the retreads though we can do better than a coach who is 5-14 in the playoffs. UGGGH!! NO RETREADS PLEASE.....

Nice post and I agree. Your last sentence says it all.

You nailed it beautifully. Gailey is the best choice we have right now and I hope Wayne hires him.

agreed .... there are more than just the five that were metioned above we need a real head coch finally someone states the obvious Gailey and Mora are terrible choices in MHO

The reality of all this is that there are no guarantees no matter who you hire. We went the route of hiring the popular pick (JJ, Saban) and look what that got us.

We just need to get this search over and start building from there.
