I really think we will make the Playoffs this year fro a few simple reasons. First off, we were considered a Playoff contending team last year BEFORE Ricky left, and in almost every area we are better this year:

See if you agree with me in terrms of are we better now than we were at this time last year BEFORE Ricky left.

Coaching:

Saban is clearly better than Wanny without even coaching a game. Our Asst. Coaches are better too. But last year Everyone talked Playoffs until Ricky Retired.....and now?

QB's:
I think we are better here too. Gus is better than Fiedler, and Feeley is a year older and more experienced.

RB: I think we are better here too. The Depth is def better and Ronnie will be a star. Plus Ricky will be very rested and Fresh by the time he Hits the field. Will he be better than before he left, I don't know but he could be at least as good. Plus the Depth is better. Ronnie, Lamar, Etc. Also I think Evans is an upgrade at FB over Konrad.

WR: Better here too. Chris and Marty are solid, Boston is Healthy again, Thompson improved so much last year, and Randy is getting better.Def better than last year.

OL: I once again think we are better here. Houck is an obvious upgrade over Wise, and McDougle is a def upgrade, Carey is a year older, we found something in Hadnot last year, and we have Smith in a better spot in the Interior line.

DL: Better here too. I mean our Depth is def better, we have some young guys in the mix replacing Chester and Bowens at DT, we have Roth and Carter to go with JT on the outside. I say much better here.

LB: Even; i think. With Zach and Junior a year older we may lose something, and the loss of Greenwood may hurt, he improved last year. But, Spragan is not bad and i am really high on Crowder. If this guy is healthy he is def going to play a big role for us this year. I say even, but if some say we were better last year, i would not argue with it too hard.

DB: Worse. Hands down this is where we los tthe most. Both Safeties, Pat whoi is a top 5 corner, and we replace dthem with a Rookie(it looks like) and 2 safties that have some???? plus Sam is a year older, and the injury to Poole hurts. But we have some potential.

K/P: Even. Mare and Turk are a year older but can Mare be any worse?? He was hurt last year too.

Now look at our Division and tell me if they got better or Worse?
NE- Worse. Loss of coaches, Bruschi, etc.
Buff- Worse. Lack of Depth at RB, Young QB.
NYJets-Even. Not much of a change and they lost some Oline. I think they may be the best team in the division.

MY PREDICTION: I say we are a 10-6 team who may get 11 wins if it all breaks right. Playoffs with a possible win. Not saying SB, but I really think this is an honest assesment.
WHAT DO You all think??????????????????

even? there sorry @sses picked up fiedler, lost lamont jordan, chad is coming back off an injury season....nope worse just like the rest....but we were 4-12 last year, so maybe 8-8 gets us in?

I agree with you. The playoffs are very real possibility.

Everyone feels their team is playoff bound when training camp reports start coming in.

If we we're in the NFC, I'd be with you on this. I seriously wouldn't be Shocked if we made the playoffs; but just because your team is capable of making the playoffs, it doesn't mean that there aren't atleast 6 teams that are even more capable.

i like the breakdown. it must have taken a while, so ill say thanks.

but a few things:

1) coaches. how do you know if he is better? he hasnt done anything yet. you could have hired a highschool coach and called him better than wanny just because hes not wanny. and we will see how your new offensive co. does with out Moss or Culpepper (sp?).

2) rookie RB (i know he was a #2 overall pick, and will be very good. but hes still a rookie. and i think its unlikly that he will get more than 1100 yards rushing. and ill wait on williams to do something before calling him dominant as he was in 2002.

3) QBs: if you really think gus is better than feeley, than you might as well run the ball 80% of the time. just let feeley start and play. and make a decision after the season. (or atleast after the first 6 games.)

4) O-Line. it is improved. no dout about that. but its still a problem. OT, OG, C are all a problem. as untill this is fixed, the running game will suffer. (passing game too)

5) D-Line, improved. they are a short term answer, to a problem. Wright is a good pickup, but most of the FA signings were older, "past their prime" players. but like i said, a good short term answer.

6) LBs: Zach, is a shadow of his old self. but he was so good before, now hes still above average, and adds leadership. Zach is still dominant. so overall this is the strongest position on the fins.

7) DBs, you said it well. but i dont think the fins are used to their passing D being this bad. they are in for a shocker. nothing is more frustrating than a 3rd and 10 pass interference. :fire:

as for the other teams:
pats: (i agree) worse without Bruschi and coaches, but they still have Bill.
Jets: if pennington is healthy, they will challange for the division down to the last game.
bills: rookie QB. who knows what he will do. but we wont ask him to do much. other than that we are solid. lack of depth at RB isnt that big of a problem. some might bring up injuries, but hes fine. we got other RBs who can come in for a play or two. (but if they are out for a game or 2, we are in trouble).
fins: improved overall, but very lacking in the secondary, and QB. i see the fins anywhere between 6-10 and 9-7. (though im predicting 7-9)

Nice points, but a few things, first, I said Gus is better than FIEDLER, not Feeley, that remains to be seen. Next. DL not all are old, Roth and Wright are Rookies, and David Bowens is not old. Carter and Hollidaya re older, but won't have to play every down.
Finally I agree with your assesment of the Secondary, we could be in big trouble.

i COMPLETLY misread that Fiedler/Feeley thing. my bad.

I disagree. First off, I see this year as a learning program for not only the coach but also the players. We have two second string QB's (just my opinion), a offensive line that doing some serious learning. Many vets only signed for a year, kinda makes me see a patchwork. Our defense, while still having most of the core, still has weak spots.

Saban said he wants to build through the draft. I guess that makes me look at things like he's using this season to teach a new system to the players that will return next year, and then draft the one's that he wants next year.

I don't see us playoff bound this year. I do see a new team, new coaches, etc. all working towards a common goal of the future and learning.

I agree with IceStorm, we are rebuilding. The rest of you lay down the crackpipe for 15min and get real. :rofl3:
We were 31st against the run and 31st in running the ball, those are the two most telling stats in a competitive team besides turnover ratio. Our running game and backfield passes will improve substantially which will keep the D off the field, which SHOULD help our defense against the run. But our secondary is new (and old with regard to Madison), we're adding 3-4 lineups to zone blitz more often (which is a fair gamble to get to the QB but puts a lot more pressure on our LB's to get around blockers and make tackles), and we have a VERY suspect OL still (although hopefully better than the swiss cheese last year). Throw in the usual post-Marino issue of no proven QB and where are we? Are we seriously considering Frerotte for starter? (yes) Where is the long-term solution there? Personally, I think Feeley is a bum so maybe we don't have a choice for this year, but I hope he proves me wrong.
Of course we have a chance at the playoffs. I think the bookies have us at 40:1 to win the AFC and 12:1 to win the division, so maybe around 8:1 for a playoff birth? Call your bookie up if you REALLY believe it since that's a pretty good return!

Can someone please explain to me why Gus will be "Starting" over AJ? Or at least even think about starting Gus over AJ? Im trying to find the reason behind that? Gus? But why???? Wouldnt the Fins rather try and develop AJ? Or wouldnt the fans rather see what AJ has to offer???
