WHY WE'LL PICK A SAFETY WITH OUR "FIRST" PICK!!!!!!!!!

You're the opposing coach or offensive coordinator and you're facing the Miami Dolphins. They've just signed one of the best free-agent WRs to completent their receivers from last year and they have one of the best offensive minds calling plays for them. You know you have to put up points to just stay in the game.

You're facing one of the leagues best run-defense from last year who just added a ALL-PRO DE/LB by the name of Joey Porter. They just resigned their inmoveable NT. You can't run inside and you can't run outside. What do you do?

You pass first and think about running third (option/not down)!

You're the Miami Dolphins coach or defensive coordinator you know the opposing team can't run on you so they are going to pass and pass often on you. You know it only takes one long pass play, broken coverage, or slow footed safety to turn the game around. What do you do?

You draft a safety that is a sure tackler, who is a good cover safety, who can blitz, and who has the speed to negate the long ball. You draft Laron Landry or Reggie Nelson!!!!! Then you pick up the 3rd or 4th rated OT in the 2nd round.

That's what I would do. What would you do?

I agree though Landry is the pick not nelson

Good post and I agree. Landry would definitely be in my first target group.

"...They've just signed one of the best free-agent WRs..." Shhhh, don't jinx us.

Or you could draft a premier position like DE(Anderson/Carriker), a #1 CB that we need(Hall, who can return kicks too), a franchise LT(Brown), or maybe a NT(Branch). There will likely be better value at #9 than a safety. I would be fine if we drafted Landry, but we are thin on the DL, and we need help at CB, so there are absolutely no sure things about our pick at 9 at this point.

i disagree.. we need to address our O-Line...

id rather we go after a shut down CB than a safety........

I live in Arkansas, however i am not a razorback fan.. If there is no offensive player worth the #9 i would love to get Chris Houston. This guy is going to be the real deal. I dont know if we would have to try and trade down, or if he would be worth the 9th.

I think chris houston is probably a 10-15 range guy. Definitely the real deal though.

Also, everyone who says safety isn't a 'premier' position... the nfl is constantly evolving. When the league was void of elite tight ends, no one piked them in the first round... now there's talk of us getting olsen (who I'm not high on at all) with the #9 pick. Guys like sanders, reed, polamalu, williams etc. are revolutionizing the position and making a premier position. I think landry could be the next in line for game changing safeties and would love to see him in our backfield. He would change the way teams gameplan against us for sure. Especially with our ability to get to the qb.

If quinn isn't around at 9, I want landry. I don't think either of them will be there though. I wouldn't be disappointed if we ended up with houston at the 9 or were able to trade down a few spots and still land him.

Well, there's my two cents.

We are going to draft Levi Brown. He will be our LT for years to come. Then with the first 2nd round pick we get Drew Stanton, which takes care of our future qb. With the next 2nd round pick we get a left guard. With the third round pick we get a DB...should be some good ones there. With the 4th round pick we pick up center. With the sixth round pick we pick up a big body for our d-line. With the two 7th round picks we should get WR and another o-line. These are just my opinions but I think if we get the BPA at these positions we will have great draft. We would have depth at a lot of positions.

There are questions surrounding Brown (slow) and gets sloppy with technique at times. Hall is not as good a prospect as Landry, in fact, I don't even think he's the best CB in this draft. We are not thin at D-line, how do you figure? NT can be had in the middle of the draft, there are always sleeper picks from some lesser known programs who are available.
I also believe that Houck, Cameron and Mueller think Alabi is ready to start. He has good footwork and is athletic. The biggest knock on him was his strength and I think the last 2 yrs he has improved that. What we need on the O-line is another guard and center. If the Phins can't trade down, Landry is the BPA and the one most likely to make an impact. The guy is a special talent for his position, unlike Brown, Hall etc.

Hall plays a premier position and the VAST majority of scouts rate him as their top CB. It seems he's been forgiven for his bad games at the end of the year, which is understandable considering he proved he's quick enough and fast enough.

chris houston or laron landry are superfast and i woud not mind either one but how are we going to build this offence up maybe if the defence is so good it will score or set up easy scores

Well you don't build it by forcing draft picks.

who said i want to force draft picks you can do better than that

The hell are you talking about? Tell me other than Brown who arguably we're not going to take because of confidence in Alabi who are you going to draft at 9 on offense. There is no WR to take because none of them is worth that, Stallworth has a great shot of being a Fin, and third are you going to seriously draft Greg Olsen?

calm down did i say in my post we had to draft offence i said i would be happy to have landry or houston thats all if you have any other ideas about helping out the offence fine but nowhere i said to force a draft pick to offence
