I can't figure out why we are paying him the large cap hit this year?obviously they like him enough to keep him at that cost. So why not do a 4 year 24 million deal. Guaranteed 12 million.
I know he has injury issues but if that's the reason than why pay him this year too dollar.

Do we know he's willing to sign a 4 year $24 million deal with $12 million guaranteed? Chris Hubbard signed a 5 year $36 million deal with the Browns and he's not considered to be at the same level of James. Seems like we're assuming he would tak a below market deal now instead of waiting a year. Just because you offer it to him doesn't mean he would sign it. Do we have any info to suggest they haven't offered him an extension? Is there a benefit for James to sign that deal now instead of waiting?

No offence, but James is not signing a deal like that. Zero chance. He just needs to stay healthy and play like he can and he's in line for a big contract. He's making $9 million guaranteed right now. Not much incentive with an offer like that.

Both James and the team will wait on this. The team wants to see if he can stay healthy AND be consistent. James wants to have a good year and probably cash in.

I wouldn't be suprised if they've offered him a deal that would be very team friendly and below what James and his agent are looking for. It would be the wise thing to in negotiating. It would also be wise on James' part to decline the intial low ball offer. You make offers to establish the peramiters and the go from there. As far as James the player goes, I'm fine if he returns going forward, but he's not a player you lose sleep over losing. You can find right tackles in the middle of the draft or as second level free agents.

This is why I believe you always invest in the oline. James seems to have found his groove, ceiling...is it worth big money?

Tough call...today. Let's see in week 8.

James more than likely wants a long term deal in the 8-10 mil a year range, saying he is average is not really true....he's an excellent blocker against speed rushers from what I have observed and only has a problem being bull rushed into the QB, exactly what you want from a new R-OT if he can get stronger....if he can't get any stronger that's a problem but it's better to be able to handle the speed guy's because if you can't your more than likely never be able to.

Problem is once Tannenbaum started over paying some of these guy's now they all want to be overpaid. That coupled with some of the mistakes of their own creation they now have serious cap problems going into 2019...Suh 17 mil becomes do plus any of the other mistakes they want to rid themselves of - dead money cap hit is going to be large and may go 2019 2020. ie Kiko, Branch who should not of been given those contracts.

J JAMES is a maybe at best anyway

IMO, so is Tunsil. James needs to play a lot better to deserve a big contract. I've seen Tunsil get pushed around; maybe he's not strong enough, or just isn't putting forth much effort (like Parker). As for Asiata, no one has seen him play yet.

I really believe that they should just build a line with all Free Agents because I don't think Miami's Front Office personnel are capable of evaluating and recognizing o-line talent in the Draft. A Free Agent has replaced Pouncey. Free Agents have been playing at the Guard positions because their draft picks at Guard sucked (and Asiata is an unknown). Is it the type of o-line player they're drafting that isn't getting it done? Are the blocking schemes they're using ineffective? Or, is it a combination of both? Jake Long was drafted when Miami wanted a certain style of lineman to execute a certain style of blocking, and he was VERY good at it (until injuries derailed his career). The current Regime and Front Office jumped at the chance to draft Tunsil when he fell to them. Sorry, but Tunsil is no Jake Long, and I have not seen anything to certify that Tunsil is truly a 1st round talent... and the same goes for James.
