I play Madden and I never waste a play by attempting a 2-3 yard pass. I just do not get it.... That is one thing that drives me nuts about our offense. And I so miss having a fullback and just lining up and running the ball.

Why would anyone call a 1-2 yard run play? Makes no sense either.

It depends on the play , sometimes its a pass play designed to catch defense off guard. There are plenty of reasons to call such a short pass play and in the right scemes they can be quite successful.

The idea is that the pass play will go for more than 1-2 yards. However, I agree with you for the most part. When you run the football, you are hitting the defense. You are physically punishing them by putting hats on them. You aren't really doing that on a 2 yard crosser or bubble screen or whatever.

My two biggest criticisms of Bill Lazor are:

1. Too many screen passes and balls thrown behind the LoS.
2. Not enough rushes.

He could solve both issues by replacing the former with the latter.

I don't know either. I assume its because they have no faith in the line holding up. It sucks though because teams are always in attack mode against us. We hardly ever get them on their heels.

They are designed to go further. Look at Parkers 3 yard catch. Tackler caught him at the leg, but if he misses, Parker goes for 10+. He was crossing and heading upfield.

But yeah, I wanna see more inside running, draws etc. Seem like lazor has been obsessed with getting Miller out in space, but it ends up being a pile of defenders instead of space.

Agree completely. The problem with many of the short passes are that they require great timing and ball placement to maximize YAC. Perfect example being Parker's one catch. Ryan put the ball slightly high and right on Parker and he was immediately tackled for short yardage. Tannehill puts that slightly out in front of Parker and he can maintain his separation and probably pick up 8.

Same thing happened on an outlet throw to Damien Williams. He had to turn his back to catch the ball and his momentum carried him out of bounds for a 2 yard gain. If the ball was in front of him, he would have been 1 on 1 with a linebacker in space. That's at least 5-6 yards.

Tom Brady & the Patriots throw more 2-yard passes than any team I've ever seen, BTW.
