I really love Zo as a compliment to Ronnie... and love his versatility in the passing game.

But why in the world would we use him as a "3rd down back"? I mean, I am down for playing him on some 3rd downs... but I think Booker should be more used as a change of pace RB to Ronnie... than to take his place on 3rd downs.

I want Ronnie in on most of our 3rd downs. The guy is a great receiver... and more importantly for 3rd downs... a great blocker. Booker is just as good at receiving... and is more explosive... but he cant block near on the level of Ronnie. On 3rd and long plays... a lot of the time the RBs will stay back and block to give the WRs time to get down field for the 1st down. Ronnie has picked up countless blitzers that have allowed us to pick up that 1st.

I love Lorenzo's versatility... and really want to use him in the passing game, especially in screens. However, I dont think that we should take Ronnie off the field on 3rd downs just because we have Lorenzo. IMO, Ronnie is very valuable on 3rd downs... and we should be a lot more creative in using Lorenzo than just as a "3rd down back"...

I agree. Ronnie is versatile enough to play on third downs and can do alot of things Booker cannot. I think Booker is looked at as more of a change of pace back verses a third down back.

I can see booker used in screens and pitches outside the tackles. Lining him up at receiver wouldn't make much sense to me because he'd be taking the slot position most likely and we have actual receivers that would do a much better job.

Booker will be used in much of the same way John Avery should have been used. Still feel like we miss used that guy...

i THINK THOSE TWO ON THE SAME FIELD DURING THIRD DOWN IS A GOOD POSSIBILITY,,,,RONNIE COULD ACTUALLY PLAY THE FULLBACK ROLE FOR THOSE CERTAIN OCCASSIONS AND STILL GET THE BALL ON THAT DOWN OR TO SET UP LOBOOK AND BLOCK FOR HIM,,,THERE GREAT DECOYS FOR ONE ANOTHER,THE POSSIBILITIES ARE INCREDIBLE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ADD CHRIS AND TEDD TO THE MIX.
Its third and five, ginn and chambers on the outside with ronnie and lo book in the backfield,,,martin is at tight end,,,daunte takes the snap and does ???? thats 6 skill position players that have the talent as good as anybody in the league

Man,that is an explosive offense and something that i truly believe is going to happen,,,cam is that smart to know how to utilize these talents,,its gonna be a fun year boys

Like who  After Chambers and M. Booker, there is no who is a lock at WR. And Booker was shopped around the league. Last season, everyone was critical of the O-line and QB, but the receivers had a very bad year dropping balls most of the season. If Lorenzo can catch and make positve yards, then it will the offense keeping the opposing defense guessing.

When the Giants picked Tiki Barber, he was also slated to be the 3rd down back.

He's at least going to be a situational player for us, whether it's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th down. At most, he will be splitting carries with Ronnie. This is just IMHO of course, as I'm hoping we don't revert to the old conservative early downs, then need a "third down back" in a desparation play to keep a drive alive. I'm hoping we open'er up, anytime, anywhere. Thank you RamCam for Ginn and Booker.

i think they considered lorenzo the 3rd down back because people were hoping ricky would be ronnies back up. since ricky isn't coming back any time soon, if at all, lorenzo is probably going to get a lot more touches especially because he's so versatile.

Thats just a label teams like to use, he is the backup RB and will share the load with Ronnie, although it is possible another runner is used as well and that Booker see's the field more in passing situations.

Labels really don't matter, he is a weapon on this offense and he will be utilized by Cameron.

3rd down back is always a misleading title.

Like if its 3rd and 1, who do you want in there? Ronnie to pound that yard away. (or throw an ill fated 2point conversion):)

I think the better title is situational back. We will use Booker a lot hopefully, but we should be able to use him on any down we want.

I also like the idea of Ronnie and Booker on the field at the same time. You could swing either of them in motion to go out, so many options.

What having Lo means is that we have more versatility and speed on the field at the same time. When you take out a FB and put Lo in, you add speed. When you have the speed that Brown has coupled with Lo, you can have some mismatches that could be fun to watch as fans... We'll see Lo in as the 3rd down guy sometimes, sometimes he'll be coupled with Brown, sometimes we'll see Ginn in as the 3rd WR, CC to the slot with Lo as the single back and no TE...Having CC, Ginn, Lo and Brown in on the same plays significantly changes the dynamics a defense has to worry about....

One thing is, if we can get some consistency at QB, be that Lemon, Cpep, Green, Beck or Hamdan, this could be a fun team to watch with the added weapons of Ginn and Lo...

Booker is one of those guys sort of like Ginn where the imagination tends to run wild: we'll use him here, we'll line him up there, etc. That's been my beef with the "3rd down back" concept for a while: it's too predictable because of the player substitution. In the case of Booker he really does have versatility, and can be used as a slot guy, an H-back, a running back. a receiver because of his hands, speed, and elusiveness. At least that's the way it looks on paper.

I have the feeling we're going to see L. Booker & Ginn lining up all over the place. Maybe not at first, but by years end these guys will be real weapons & the best part about it is, they will allow our other weapons, (Chambers, Brown etc.) to get freed up. Defenses will have no choice but to account for their speed and elusiveness.
Man, I too am getting excited about the up coming season & direction of our team. We may not win much at first, but we'll be fun to watch!

Where do you get that he is more explosive than Ronnie? I don't see it.

I do agree that he should be a change of pace back.
