I don't know if this has been posted yet; but here is a YouTube video of David Lee explaining how Arkansas used the Wild Hog Formation with Darren McFadden. 3 main variations of the formation.

Does anyone else think that this fits the Dolphins? Look at how similar the plays in the video are to what we ran vs the Patriots. Seems to be VERY difficult to stop.

McFadden/Jones
Brown/Williams

Your thoughts?

Yeah, Marino613 found an article in the NY Times yesterday that referred to the same video. But it got pushed off the first page of the forums.

I thought it was a pretty good explanation for why it presents mismatches. We'll have to see what the defensive coordinators around the league come up with to stop it. I would like to see if Ginn or Bess can get involved in it as well, then we'd have three different flavors of the Wildcat to work with.

I think we'll see a lot more ways to use this formation then just this 3 ways and the different ways we played it! Maybe a backward pass to Pennington with a long ball to Teddy, a double handing over from Ronnie to Ricky and then from Ricky to Teddy... etc.! There are many ways to confuse a defense with those formations!

Every coach in the NFL and especially every coach on the Dolphins schedule has already put in a defensive scheme to maybe not stop but contain this offense. Any offense can be contained and with containment you make the offense adjust. If there was an unstoppable offense out there then NFL coaches would be running the spread all the time.

Technically an offensive play should work 100% of the time if properly executed. The offense has the element of surprise as well as knowing who should block who and who should go where every single time. A defense has to adjust and predict everything that happens on the field of play as it happens. It is out of sheer atheltic ability and expierence that a defense stops any given play.

This hype around this Ronnie Brown/single T offense is great but after this week it will be nothing more than a gadget play from time to time. Dont expect it much more than that.

Not a criticism, but I watched the tackling 101 video and he seems to want to grab the runner high when he tackles. I know he is just a kid, but if you get him target the hips, it will prevent bad habits from developing.

whatever offense we had------

ronnie wouldve still ran over everyone on the field!!

well.......

we shall see on this so calld "gadget play".

the west coast offense was a REAL gadget thing when it
first appeared....30 YEARS AGO!!

it still is the most productive offense in the nfl and is being
adopted in one form or another every year by some staff.

buffalo had the k-gun offense/no huddle that worked for them
untill that dynasty of kelly/thomas/read retired. offensive
coordinator tom moore uses versions of it in indy as well as others.

this offense has a potentiial to be the new thing. you really can
run a whole lot of plays off it. if you have a whole new set of
plays and you run it in with your bass offfense, this could be
productive for a very long time.

will they let it ride off into the sunset? who knows.

but calling this a one hit wonder is just a tad bit pre mature!

MP08!!

the thing that worries me is that we shouldnt rely on trick plays we need to add a wr and get the passing game going or else like another poster said, defenses will stop our trick plays dead in the tracks.
I really enjoyed the win and I hope ronnie can stay involved but i wouldn't expect us to have success in the next game because defense will be expectring it.

The problem is i expected adiaus thomas to roll out to chad pennington and flatten him at the snap.you can do anything to the QB all alone after snap before 5 yards.
Also, expect the coach to call a fire blitz with DL,LB and Safety blitzing from all sides brown is not going to read the field and throw to a WR or read coverage.

The problem is, they dont know when it is coming. That is the reason Penny stays in for it.

If we subbed Penny out defenses would see he's not in there and put the proper players in to defend it.

The reason it worked for us against NE (other than the surprise factor) is that it created mismatches all over the field.

No, its not a base offense, and never will be. Hell, even Arkansas didnt run it all the time. But the nice thing about it is that it keeps defenses from stacking the box.

We will see alot of variations of it in future games, double reverse to penny with a toss to a receiver will be a fun one to watch :)
