What do you guys think? I mean the guy was always consisitant year in and year out. And honestly, i couldn't see anyone else in #54. The same type of thing happened with O.J. McDuffie, the year we retired, Randy McMicheal came in and took #81. I don't think we should let that happen to Zach.

Thoughts?

If he signs with the Pats they should give the number to the waterboy!!

:woot:

no he did not do enough to have his number retired, that defense had major collapses when it was young at times when we could have won big games and championships and that does not happen to hall of famers

I hope his number is Retired he was our Best LB in our history of the Dolphins and he Played his heart out here i think it will be Retired he is going to be a HOF

How much can you honestly say was Zach's fault though? And he's not talking about the hall of fame, he's talking about retiring his jersey so no Dolphin will wear it again. It's a team recognition, not a league recognition.

And if you felt he didn't do enough, what do you think would have been enough? It's not his fault we didn't win a championship.

you better believe it was his fault and the rest of the defense he was in charge of, ask ray lewis who won a championship, how about singletary, great middle linebackers win big games

put him in the miami dolphin ring of honor, i wouldnt retire his jersey though.

ring of honor is fine, dont retire his jersey, that is for a hall of famer

Ray Lewis was part of the greatest defense of all time, they set the NFL record for least points allowed in a season (165) previously set by... who? Oh yeah, the Chicago Bears of 1985 (198 points allowed). Mike Singletary and Ray Lewis are incredible but you can't say they single-handedly won their teams championships. Nobody single-handedly wins their team anything. Hell, look at Dan Marino. He lit the league on fire for seventeen years and has nothing on his finger to show for it.
I don't think Zach could have played any better than he did. He was always prepared, always physical and always leading by example. He didn't win us a super bowl but neither did Marino, should we un-retire his jersey?

The bottomline to me is we had a championship caliber defense while zach was the leader of it. It's not his fault his years here also happened to be during the same period as feidler, lucas, griese, green, culpepper, and all those other scrubs. It's sad b/c so many players are based upon how many championship rings they have but in reality no1 person can win a championship. Zach as a player is one of the best players we've had, unfortunatley for him he wasnt on one of the best teams which imo will ultimately keep him out of our ring of honor as well as not getting his # retired.

With your theory, you could say Dilfer wasn't any better than the QB's of the dolphins. They were in the same below average class.

What makes you think Zach won't be a Hall of Famer? Andre Tippet just made the Hall with his 5 pro bowl years, two less than Zach, and Zach has way more tackles than Tippet.
