While I love Sammy and respect everything that he ever did here as a Dolphin, I am happy that we've replaced him with Will Allen. I know it's only been 1 game and you can not make to much of an inference yet but if he plays each game like he did against Pit I'll be one happy dude.

He seems to have a little more quickness and speed than Sam and the thing that I really noticed is he's not afraid to come up and give a big hit or work his way through traffic to make a tackle.

Let's face it, of all the great things Sam could do he was never a very aggressive tackler.

This is true. Sam never did want to "thud up" as they call it. Will Allen will come up and make the tough tackle time after time.

I'd take Madison over Allen any day of the week...In my opinion Allen's tackling skills are no better than Madison's.

JuniorSeau55, what do you think that reason was?

I realize they must have let him go for a reason but didn't we also let go of Sam Madison for a reason? All I'm saying is that after 1 game I'm very happy with his performance and if he can keep it up over a 16 game schedule then I would consider it an upgrade at the CB position.

i agree with phinphan 1, perhaps madison didnt do any insane head on collisions a la roy williams, but he was a very good tackler with very good technique.. madison any dayyyy

not the Coach...HE called him out publically...which resulted in one very good tackling game for alligator arm Madison. Sammy was an arm tackling "whiffer" who's skills are declining.

heh, ! sammy seems to get no respect around here =( he played for us for so long.. his whole career...

Madison at his best was one of the best press corners ever. He had few Int's after his rookie years because he was in tight coverage and teams would challenge him.

That being said, Sam isn't at that level anymore. W. Allen played very well. Good coverage, no complaints, good run support.

yah i kinda like will allen too. he has some pretty impressive career numbers as well.

Respect the opinon but must respectfully disagree. I noticed Allen when he was with the G-men and we all saw plenty of Sam. IMHO Allen is a notch above Madison as a tackler.

As far as pure speed, technique, and ability to hang with the most difficult of WRs IN HIS PRIME Madison was a level or two above Allen. Last year Madison was not the same Cb as years before. He had lost a step and did not have the heart of a lion like he showed in the past. And, no matter what stage of Sam's career Will is still the better tackler. His aggressiveness and ability to make open field tackles without assistance are some of the attributes that brough him to the organization.

and I loved him for it... everyone has a time to leave, this was his. I'm thinking, we should revisit the subject after the season and then compare how we actually did. Madisons cover skills are IMO, superior, but not enough to offset the need in Sabans defense for CB's to tackle.

There is a reason why allen was booted off the giants.
There is a reason why Madison was booted off the Dolphins, I really liked Madison for years he was really one of the top players for the Dolphins. But Sam was getting slower the past 2-3 seasons. especially last season. Sam use to play up on the line and give a push to the recievers but if you watch last seasons games you could see him playing off more and more and also Sam got burned alot last season. more then any other season. He was great for our team for years he just got football slow. Just my Opinion.

I think madison was a ball hawk, but the last couple of years he had more holes then swish cheese. How quick fans forget the long touchdowns he gave up. Like the fact the Lavareus Coles lit him up over and over again. He lost a step it was time for a change. Surtain was the mistake this organization made. He was one of the best corners we ever had. One more thing Madison looked more like Tim Mckyer and Vestees Jackson then a Number one corner the past three years.
